Hello everybody,

I need you to help me to solve a dilemma. At a local nursery I bought in the last spring seedlings of Cherokee Purple and Black Krym. I grow them side by side in pots and to my surprise in production and by color, size taste and everything else they look identical and they look the same as Cherokee Purple which I was growing for several years. I suspect that the nursery mislabeled them, most likely it is not the real Black Krym. Is it possible that Black Krym is so similar to Cherokee purple?

Do the leaves and plant growth look the same? The fruit are very similar, in my opinion.

In my garden there is no comparison. Black Krim fruit is smaller and less productive for me and the flavor is less sweet. Photos and descriptions from Tatianna's show a smaller, rounder and less black variety and a larger, darker, fluted tomato. Mine were always the smaller, redder, rounder type. History says it is spelled Black Krim and is from Ukraine (where Tania is from so I trust her). Mistakes with names on seedlings seem to be increasing a lot lately, so I would think you may be right about a mix-up. Either poor quality control by the grower or name stakes being rearranged at the nursery. That is why I grow my own from trusted seed sellers...and even then mistakes can happen.

I agree with Paulf. Things can happen at nurseries very easily. There can be seed mix-ups from their seed vendors, mix-ups on their behalf, customers can come in and switch tags as a prank. The list goes on. It is quite easy to buy a plant these days that does not grow true to it's variety.

Cherokee Purple should have clear skin and Black Krim yellow skin .....
