Wider world of tomatoes than expected

I bit into a home grown tomato expecting something great tasting- a little red pear shaped dose of shockingly bad flavor . How can a tomato that innocent looking be so terrible. I'm at a loss for words, wow, should have a warning label. Along with police dogs, I'm going to be afraid of red pear tomatoes.

Ha I had this happen last year with my first tomato. The disapointment and anger. Thankfully the rest were nice.

The last of the Sunsugar were at the other end of the Spectrum, as good as the hideous red pears were bad.

In several years of tomato groups having tomato tastings the most common of the "spitters" has been the nasty pear cherries. With thousands of really good heirloom/open pollenated varieties out there, pear shaped cherries are not a good choice. Home grown does not automatically mean good...as you have discovered.

I stay away from any pear shaped tomatoes. My mom planted these in the play yard for us kids. They were hideous. All that we used them for were to haul around in our toy truck or shoot each other with tomato bombs. Why she kept planting them for us I will never know.

They are the perfect shape, by holding by the neck, for dipping into dressing. That's about it.

The compost got them, I hope the worms don't take offense.
