Anyone have any experience with the Mountain Pride to share?

We planted three (3) this year because my Go-To Nursery didn't have the Jardín del Gotch stalwart Mountain Merit.

VERY late ripenings, hardly any had blushed by the time I took down the vines; those that have ripened off'n the vine are VERY firm and nearly flawlessly shaped!

We still have a bunch of greenies; heck, we might be making fresh BLTs (final one last season was on 11/15) on into December!

The Gotch

Having grown several of the "Mountain" series, none are tomatoes of interest for me. They were/have been small red, round relatively tasteless hybrids. While production was good, that is not why I grow tomatoes.

The Mountain Merit has been good sized and, yes, round, and the Mountain Magic has won the Jardín del Gotch Taste Test four (4) years running.

The Gotch

I grow Mountaineer Pride (West virginia 17A). its not from the mountain strain. its a open polinated variety from the cross West virginia 63 x Iron Lady.
Mountaineer Pride is very slow growing late ripening with normal tasting beef tomatoes. Ith very blight resistant with ph2 and ph3 homozygous (the best there is).
I use it to cross with better tasting tomatoes and ceep blight resistance.

Had the 1st of our late-to-ripen Mountain Prides with this week's installment of our BLT Brunch; it was tasty enough and a little tangy to boot, and VERY firm....not unlike the Yaqui Hybrid.

Because of that firmness, the lovely and long suffering Mrs. Gotch will be using some to make her marvelous Aunt Jenny's Tomato Breads later this week.

Because of that firmness AND late ripening, I'll plant a few next season!

Tomato breads sound awesome. I wonder if wonderberries would be good in those with the tomatoes. I think I know why they call them wonderberries (I'm always wondering about the next sort of dish they might be good in).
