I somehow don't think a great sale on a 13" bench top planer belongs in the coupons thread. Amazon has this planer on a great sale down from $749.00 to $629.00, with free delivery too. I looked at the big box stores and currently they are priced at $799.00 each. This is a great sale price I think and we need one but I am not sure we are headed there just yet.

I need a planer but I'm spoiled.
The last one I set up and ran was back in the 80's.
The thing cost many thousands of dollars.
When we turned it on all the lights in Austin would go dim for a minute and the birds would jump off the high line wires

You might also consider looking at what Grizzly has for sale.
The shop fox is half off right now.

That looks great but it is 2HP and I think we have the electrical power for just 1HP in the new garage.

Surely you have 120 volt single phase 15 amp circuit in the building.
Go down and look at the specs.
Not pushing any products but there are options.
The helical cutter heads are fantastic and put out an unbelievable finish on your wood with the shearing action the do.
The planer I ran in the cabinet shop not the giant one was much better but had this same type cutter heads.
It would run 24 inch glued up panels with ease.
The finish was beautiful.

Yep, I do. Got confused on the 2HP lol. I will definitely show hubby, we still need to build cabinets for the kitchen, and bathrooms. Aye Aye Aye, so many projects.

I've never used this product before but I've seen them around and they have good reviews.
I am Not by any stretch of the imagination a fan of DeWalt.
On a side note my gunsmithing engine lathe has went up about 2 thousand dollars in price since I bought mine.

Right, those grizzly's have great reviews, far better than DeWalt, but it was in my Amazon save for later list and it showed it was on sale so I posted, lol. I would much prefer we get Grizzly products than anything else and this is a great price for it, thanks.

Now that I think of it we have a 240V single phase in the new garage. It is one plug only, but I believe the electrician told us we could go with 1HP only, ours wasn't strong enough for anything bigger like the huge table saw I wanted to get, lol.

Of course I am probably 100% wrong in that actual power but the three phase I wanted was out. We might be able to use this new one they have that is 1HP 110 now.

Have you seen the Laguna's they get really great reviews and they seem very solid. Expensive though.

I wanted this one but electrician said no, lol

Then there is this one I think would be okay but it just isn't as big and not as many features.

I have no idea why an electrician would go by horse power rating instead of amperage rating.
All you have to do is look at the amperage rating of the breaker and go from there.
My lathe is on an old 220 240 volt dryer outlet I don't use anymore.
The lathe specs at 2 horsepower 220 volt single phase 8.5 amps.
Running it off a cut high quality 12 gauge extension cord I had salvaged off a job for years with no problem and there won't be any problems.

Oddly enough I know more about electricity than many of the ones that call themselves electricians today.
I'm constantly having to school them at work so they don't blow up my equipment.

The math doesn't lie and that's what I go by.

@worth1 If we did it I think it would be this one, the helical cutterhead and also the permanent granite table for a set infeed and outfeed setup ability Hubby wants to build a table he can do things like this with.
