 we will see how this goes. Planted my potatoes, onions, and garlic a while back. Planted more potatoes. Old swiss chard is going to bolt. Broccoli is bolting. Red mustard will bolt soon. I plan on collecting seed.

Planted black nebula carrots, atomic red, and rouge de lounge carrots as well. Planted Bower's chard seed and some fordhook giant and vulcan. Planted two.kinds of peas so far.

Today i started the following tomato.seed in my winter sowing milk jugs:

1. Carneal Tiger
2. Wild Thyme GWR
3. Favorie de Bretagne
4. Copper River
5. True Black Brandywine
6. Mushroom Basket
7. Subarctic Plenty
8. Purple Calabash

I thought since 5 did well here before and didnt taste like a sweaty horse saddle, i want to see if my standard of most horrendous tomato ever, purple calacrap, will be the same.

And on the kitchen patio, i found babies today. Snapped a quick pic and will leave mamma alone.

I realized i will have two more bins. This means... 2 more tomatoes? 3? So maybe Summer Cider, Wildthyme Purple, and... Goft's Cream?

Eta... I think i will do Queen Aliquippa instead of GC.

They picked a good spot! That patio is basically a courtyard and is also gated. It is one of those little chestnut backed chickadees. They are in a huge Asparagus setaceus, and is 100% hidden. Even after mom darted out i didnt know where the nest was until i looked for it. I just wanted to know so i didn't water a nest if one existed.

Repeats that did fantastic here in that lineup are the Wildthyme Purple, Subarctic Plenty, and True Black Brandywine. I will let you know what works and what does not!

I planted the last three varieties - Wild Thyme Purple, Queen Aliquippa, and Summer Cider -- 2 days ago. Watered in my seeds too. Some potatoes are up and a pea. The rest should start soon as i will begin watering regularly. Got a few other plants planted in the flower gardens.

Didn't find my MMMM seeds yet for the peas. Curious, as I may have packed them by accident.

Moved around some plants inside and am propagating a bunch of natives in the kitchen window. Baby birds are still eggs. Front succulents are still looking great.

Unexpectly had the sadness of the older kid moving out of my room and into his own big boy bed. But tonight he said i should come and spend the night tomorrow after the bottom bunk mattress has puffed up all the way from its vacuum sealing. I told him about the birds and he is excited. I know too he will be excited about the seedlings. The baby has been allergy tested for strawberries since he kept reacting and is negative just in time for alpines to be starting on.

It is a new garden season.

We have babies! A small pile of naked babies in the nest. I did not investigate further beyond seeing they had hatched. Trying to balance curious kid with the birds' needs to not be harassed.

Babies safely grew up and left the nest.

Tomatoes are mostly sprouting. I am trying to ignore any different ones i see on shopping trips and tell myself i have more than enough.

Seedling progress. The weeds are, of course, making the most progress:

And some garden.

Got a bunch of free succulents from work and am tucking them in all over.

This season ended today and so we may have some more weekend time for gardening.

A sweaty horse saddle? Now that's just gross. Its flavor was described as a sweaty horse.

And Purple Calabash? How far can your oldest one spit?

Not far at all! So we will see. I am.really curious since the cool weather here sucks the flavor out of many varieties. Although, i am.not sure what i will do if pc tastes... Ok. My world view will be shaken.

I hear that Copia will give Purple Calabash a run for the money.

That sounds horrible. If PC suddenly loses all flavor and becomes good in my yard, i could try Copia 😂.

Juliana how is your foggy garden doing?

Do you attempt eggplants? I saw them sold in nurseries here but I cant imagine them doing any well so I didnt try this year.

Upper Monterey i know they make it. In my garden i got one small eggplant and that was all lol.

So far so good, although i am abroad for a month. My tomatoes are still so tiny. I think the cooler weather and lack of sun is setting them back.

Nothing! I have a few green fruits but it was so dang cold tgis year i would have had to greenhouse or hoop grow. Sigh. So disappointing. Potatoes worked well and swiss chard but that.was about all. Disappointing. Maybe i can manage to get these green things to ripen. We only had 4 days in the 70s or above and almost all nights in the low 50s. Constant fog and mist. Everything was so chilled and showing cold stress except the greens.

Oh no!
My home balcony also did awful. Too cold and foggy all summer. Only one week of heat. Thankfully my plot is a bit more inland so i got tomatoes there.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Looks like it was an off season around the bay, then.
