Woz travels 2023
Putting this here as a starter for our travels this year. Not the greatest of timing with concrete works on going, but that's life. School holidays start Friday and on Sunday we will head to Snobs Creek fish hatchery, which is having an open day. Main source of fresh water fish stocked into Victorian waters. Trout, salmon, Murray Cod and Australian Bass are breed there I believe.
Then we will work our way over to Whyalla, South Australia where we shall snorkel with the Australian Giant Cuttlefish before moving on to places unknown. I have purchased an action camera to get underwater footage, fingers crossed

Re: Woz travels 2023
Day 1, we wound up heading to the Melbourne Zoo, where the main attraction was the three baby elephants born late last year. Two girls and a boy, all have already doubled their birth weight. Very obvious friendship split with the two girls having a great time, the pool was an obvious fun stop
Travelled onto Bendigo for the night.

Re: Woz travels 2023
Day 2 started on a bad way, with yours truly suffering from the after affects of eating something that didn't agree with me. The afternoon we headed next door to the motel we were staying at, to the Central Deborah Gold Mine.
This was one of the last mines to work in the Bendigo area, yielding 979 kg of gold, worth about $AU60 million in today's money. Total yield of gold from Bendigo was roughly 720,000 kg from a saddle reef formation, one of only two known, with the other being in Nova Scotia. Unfortunately all photos are on the DSLR, so will have to wait until I download.
Day 3 has just been a long 11 hr drive from Bendigo to Whyalla, South Australia. Tomorrow is snorkeling with cuttlefish time.

Re: Woz travels 2023
Went snorkeling today, found a few cuttlefish but tide and gag reflex against me getting as close as I had hoped. Tide was rising, putting the cuttlefish in deeper water and as I could only take half a dozen breaths before spitting out the snorkel mouth piece, could not get down to them like I had hoped to with an action camera.
Tomorrow we have booked a glass bottom boat tour so will attempt to get footage then also

Glass bottom boat wasuch less hassle than snorkeling. Saw lots of cuttlefish, now to download and sort through 250 photos on DSLR.

Re: Woz travels 2023
Today started off badly, very flat tyre. Went through a mud hole yesterday, car slipped sideways and must have got some mud and gravel between rim and tyre. Had to get it cleaned out, then back together with new valve.
Drove to Murray Bridge in readiness for a day touring Monaro Open Range Zoo tomorrow

Re: Woz travels 2023
Had a good day at Monaro Safari Park today. Did the Lion 360 experience then wandered around the rest of the park. Lion 360 involves going into a heavy mesh cage within the Lion enclosure, where the lions can walk all around and on top of. Keepers feed the lions as attractions, you can pay to do so also, although these slots had already been booked. Apparently when the big boys are in the enclosure, one has to watch out not to get sprayed by them!!
9 females and young males were in the enclosure today. Plenty of photos, just need to sort them now.
Lion enclosure is open,so it is a case of watch out if you land birds, and likewise any rabbits that wander in during the day, helps keep their hunting instincts active

Still sorting photos, these are from the last days drive home, taken in the area around Dimboola in Victoria's North West.
First up is one of our pink lakes, caused by an algal growing in the water and releasing one of the carotenes into the water
walking toward Lake Loch Lel aka Pink Lake from the rest area alongside the Western Highway.
Then in Dimboola itself, there is a sign post just outside the post office to help you if you get lost.
and a couple more angles to read all the places
A bit further on, heading back towards Melbourne, one comes across a place called Dadswells Bridge, best known for a now closed former tourist attraction, the giant Koala
