Found a wineberry growing wild in my yard.
I weird looking thing that looks like a red raspberry but has a husk until ripe.
Invasive plant.Still leery about tasting it.I don't want my posts to end abruptly.

Edible it maybe, but not something I would like to see here Down Under. We have enough problems with blackberries, don't need another pest plant.

Wineberries definitely are safe to eat. I find them to be delicious when fully ripe, but they're a bit more tart than blackberries and raspberries, kind of like if you crossed blackberries or raspberries with red currants. Such a beautiful color, too. The plants pop up all along hiking trails and streams around here, keeping the invasive species volunteers busy.
