Hello from the pacific northwest

I found this forum mention in an old Houzz thread.
I've only grown a few varieties.
Last year I grew;
black krim which I didn't care for and amish paste which was great, my only complaint was that it was just hitting the peak when frost came in october.
So this year I planted 30 amish paste and 6 early girls to try to get tomatoes earlier. I was also given a bloody butcher plant and a beefsteak tomato that isn't ripe yet.
So far the amish paste are covered in large green tomatoes and I've had two tomatoes off both the early girls and the bloody butcher. I don't think I'll grow early girl next year because the bloody butcher tasted better.

Welcome to the Junction.

I still get an occasional email from Houzz. They notify me when there is a post from an old GardenWeb thread.

Welcome to the heirloom flavor addiction that so many of us have (and the forum, too).

GardenWeb was the first tomato growing site I visited. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest (Forest Grove, Oregon) my father had a hard time growing tomatoes. Good luck with growing real tomatoes and welcome to the Junction.

Welcome from the North Atlantic. ;) We have some common ground with coastal places everywhere, when it comes to tomatoes.

I picked two amish paste from the east side of the garden where they get morning sun and they taste like I remember. However it is a little strange that the early tomatoes are only a week earlier than my midseason tomato

Welcome Hornad. I am just a half hour ride from serious Amish country and am growing Amish Paste for the first time this season. Would you believe that the seeds came from a trade with a Hawaiian? Strange world, huh?

I haven't grown Amish Paste myself but last year grew starts for my friend's farm from an old packet of seeds she had, and got so many that I gave away a dozen extras to another friend... and she sent pics of her bountiful crop, grown outdoors in the backyard. It was impressive... this is a generous tomato.
We only have a few weeks' spread here, between earliest and our latest aka midseason tomatoes.
But it's also true that a heavy crop can delay the first ripening sometimes.
