Hello from mid-winter Ontario. Backyard gardener 24-30 plants any given season, started from seed in basement.

Barely here at 29°north 95° west. Winter is on the retreat, I just know this to be true. Not many basements here, but seeds get started nonetheless, often in dank and dark closets, that until the seeds sprout as then there must be light. 24-30 is about my number, but I swear to do less this year. Tomatoes are by far the highest maintenance crops I have done. I aim for quality over quantity, but quantity trumps nothingness, most of the time.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not going to jinx myself, by saying the winter is gone here, but it has been warmer than normal.

Welcome to the Junction from Down Under @mcalder66 . Don't want to think about winter in this part of the world yet.

Welcome. :) Still winter East of you.
I'm in the 24-30 ballpark as well, usually. Fewer plants and low maintenance would be the dream, but seems impossible to get there. :)

Hello and welcome to the Junction. We still have snow on the ground here in SE Wisconsin. It sure has been a strange winter. It's going to be in the 40's for the next few days which is unheard of for this time of the year.

greetings from da U.P. via sanford, florida where we are temporarily hanging out.
back home, temps are rising into the 40s in a coupla days. february is usually one of
the coldest nastiest months in my area. not so, currently. snow on the ground is melting.
here in florida, the sunshine reigns. temps are in the 60s, and 70s. supposed to rain tomorrow
with some thunder storms possible. doesn't seem like winter to me. people are out golfing.
usually, i put out anywhere from 30 to 40 plants started from seed, but may have to scale back
some. plants in the main garden have not done well the past couple years. my wife has control of
what goes in her garden although i did sneak in those garlic bulbils this past fall. tomatoes have done
better in her garden. its only two years old, but nine is about the most she will allow there. still have to
figure out where the rest are going to go.

Historically there is a mild snap this time of the winter…then comes the late Feb early March blizzard. We called it the Iowa Girls State Basketball Tournament Blizzard. Happens almost every year.

Welcome from the White Mountains in New Hampshire! It's definitely still winter here, so hard YES from me as well. I'm looking at several feet of snow through my window right now. But happily I am starting onion seeds today so this is the first day of gardening in 2024 for me anyway. Welcome to the forum and I hope you have a fantastic growing year in 2024!
Bee happy and pollinate freely!

We had some unusually warm weather in Nevada a week ago, and then this weekend we received 24 inches of snow. I was hoping for an early spring!
