Winter Is On My Head, But Eternal Spring Is In My Heart. V. Hugo

3"/7.62 cms of wet, heavy Eternal Spring fell yesterday, and we're back to sub-freezing temps.

Goldfinch males are beginning to turn yellow…sure sign that the daylight hours are lengthening. It did snow again last night. We are on the Missouri River flyway and the geese are heading in circles not sure whether to go north or back south. More warm temperatures next week to really confuse them.

The Sandhills are back here. And lots of Canada Geese. You’re so lucky to have Whooping Cranes!

I've made the same mistake; they sure as heck look alike, am I right?

Their return is a sure sign the weather's changing; they're high up flying lazy circles and putting out a screechy caterwaulin' like there's no tomorrow.

That they are!

On that subject, The International Crane Foundation (https://savingcranes.org/) is a mere ~50 miles/~80.5 kms NNW of Madison.

The Sandhill Cranes have appeared here in typical fashion, circling way up high and squawking to beat the band.
