Hello and welcome to the Junction @TomatoNinja. We are always eager to help newbies out. You sure are going to learn a lot if you hang around here a bit. Are you growing in the ground or in containers? What do you like to use your tomatoes for?

Hi,

Thanks for welcoming me. Last season i grew in containers. I was using 5 gallon containers .Not sure if i was using the right size because they were drying out daily and the wind kept blowing them over. Im hoping to try and get some in the ground this season.

I like to usually eat my tomatoes fresh, but will sometimes use them to make a pasta sauce. I mainly like to share them with family, friends, and coworkers. Since i am in the food industry, we love to talk about how we would incorporate them in our dishes

Hi @TomatoNinja and welcome! We have a small patio, so grow all our tomatoes in containers. A 5-gallon bucket is the smallest size we use and, as you have discovered, you'll need to water at least once a day during summer. It works fine for dwarfs and cherries, and is perfect for something like Maglia Rosa or one of the dwarf project varieties. Most of our containers are 13 gallons - 1 plant per - or we'll put 2 plants in a 27-gallon storage bin. I've heard others use even larger containers, but that works for us as a nice balance of space versus productivity.

As others have noted, you've found a great place with a friendly group of knowledgeable growers. :)

Bobby
