This section of the orchard is getting a revamp.
Moved the Smith fig to the new garden area, have a Plumcot, a ‘Day’ dwarf avocado and a Sweet Treat Pleurry going in.
Also moving the blueberries forward into more sun.
The metal arbors are just stashed here until the other area is ready for them so excuse the jumble.

Most of the yard of compost went to this area of the orchard where the 3 new trees will be planted.

The blueberries will move here as well and then bee & hummingbird plants.

Yesterday I finally got this section replanted.

8 varieties of southern high bush blueberries, moved from where they were too shaded.
Dwarf ‘Day’ avocado
Plumcot (50/50 plum/apricot)
Sweet Treat Pleurry (plum/cherry)
Existing 4-in-1 Pluot
Rose Lady Emma Hamilton as I had nowhere else to put her.

The black plastic pot is marking where the dwarf Lapins cherry will go as I am an eternal optimist.
The plumcot and pleurry are underplanted with paperwhite narcissus. The Pluot has chives and I’ll add something else from seed.
I’ll let the trees settle in for a couple of weeks then start the interplanting.

The herb garden does have lots herbs in it but I’ve had to stuff the last cauliflower and some of the onions in there too.
Excavating the giant stump in the new area among other delays has thrown off my timing a bit.

Your garden is so beautiful. I love how you used the broad stone and the curving lines. Here's wishing it brings you all the fruit you ever wanted! :)

Splash Pluot starting year 2 in the orchard.

Flavorosa Pluot. I’m using a combination of limb spreaders and weighted water bottles to train the new branches.
Abutilon, salvia and herbs interplanted between all the fruit trees.

This is a Michelia (magnolia cousin) figo hybrid tucked in a semi-shady back corner. The blooms are lovely but unfortunately it didn’t inherit the Figo scent.

Abutilon striatum suffered almost no freeze damage and is blooming it’s head off.

The Osmanthus are underplanted with Aristolochia Fimbriata, also no damage from the big freeze.

And the Skyscraper salvia are slowly coming back from the roots. I think only 2 were lost from this area.

‘Green Ischia’ fig. Very reliable for me, ripening in June.
Can’t wait until I don’t have raised bed supplies stashed all over the yard.

Ah the classic tale of garden beauty. I never see the bags of stuff and so on when I'm enjoying or taking a pic. Lots of cropping required here! ;)

A little hard to see but am thrilled to see new growth on this ‘Day’ avocado. I hesitated ordering from this vendor because everything I’ve tried arrived pretty beat up and just not well grown. This variety is difficult to find so I chanced it.
I’m expecting to lose the fruit and may remove them myself if they don’t drop.

The hodgepodge herb garden is the only place available for bush beans right now so in they went this weekend. If only we’d get a bit of rain …

New growth coming along on the ‘Day’ avocado and as I suspected the first tiny fruit dropped.
Big hopes for next year!

Scarlet Beauty plum is such an easy tree; very happy with it.
EE42A93E-4A51-4FE5-BCFB-E2822A475B07.jpeg
The section of my little backyard orchard I revamped is settling in. Besides the fruit trees and blueberries I’m gradually filling in with pollinator plants, some annual from seed and some perennial.

I couldn’t fit all the onions in grow bags so the overflow had to go in the ground. They’ve done pretty well so I may split them again next year.
