This was on the side of the house. It has a white furry looking head.

Salt marsh moth.

Their caterpillars have been super abundant this year.

It’s very exotic looking!

A very pretty moth!
I wouldn't trust them in the garden though. 'wide range of broadleafed plants' and reports of damaging gardens or farms when in high numbers.
Wooly bear types were voracious on my peas last year, too many!

It looks like a moth in the Spilosoma genus.

It looks like the salt marsh moths karstopography mentioned earlier in the thread, too. They're both in the same subfamily.

karstopography is probably right, though. The salt marsh moths look like they have striped legs.

We used to get moths like these on our posts in the morning a lot when we had a Bug Zapper out in the 1980s or so. I loved the moths. I haven't seen them in many years. It's good to know they're thriving somewhere.

@SpookyShoe and myself are both very close to salt marsh environments.

There have been lots of these caterpillars around this year.

What is this? It was on a rock in my backyard.
