Random and miscellaneous tomato plant pictures

This year I started my tomato seeds a few weeks too early and the plants got too large to continue to be grown indoors (for my shelves and lights setup). They were in 16 oz. clear plastic drinking cups when I put them outdoors during the day. I had to bring them indoors at night if the temps got too chilly.
Eventually they got too large for even the 16 oz. cups and I decided to pot them up one more time before putting them in the ground in late February / early March. I had five 32-oz. styrofoam beverage cups on hand so I potted up five of the plants. I ordered more 32 oz. styrofoam cups from Amazon and they will be here in a couple of days and I can finish up my potting project. Here are three of the plants in their 32 oz. cups. They are from left to right Isis Candy cherry, Black from Tula, and Snow White cherry.

Donna, wow! You’ll have tomatoes by mid-April at this rate. Your plants look fantastic!

It's drizzling outside and the temps are in the low 50s. I've got my plants underneath a shed. I'm going to have to bring them indoors tonight and leave them inside for a couple of days while I dodge temperatures that are a little bit on the too cool side. My indoor lighting system really isn't adequate for plants this large. I'll learn from my mistakes and do better next year.
I'm aiming for a plant out date of March 1.

My tomato (and pepper, eggplant, chard and tomatillo) seedling forest. Used Craig's dense planting and started many varieties trying to use up older seeds and grow some varieties I need seeds for in future seasons...

I am so glad as these seedlings are on my last nerve.

SpookyShoe, those are looking good! Do you plant in-ground or in containers/pots?
I also started way too soon. I just wanted to see if anything would sprout. Wouldn't you know it, all 3 of 3 different ones came up, and I just could not bring myself to throw them out. So now I have 9 plants already 6-8 inches tall and plantout here isn't until the middle of April. ARRGH.

I'm going to plant 20 gallon grow bags. I tried a few tomato plants in grow bags last year and the grow bags really seemed to help with the nematode problem in my soil.
Tomorrow night and the next night it's going to get into the low forties, so I have to drag those suckers inside again.

I love grow bags! For veggies like tomatoes, eggplant, etc. I would never plant directly in my nematode infested soil.
Keeping an eye on temperatures here too as all my ‘spares’ are stuck outside. (No room under the lights)

I understand that "last nerve" perfectly. After giving that nerve a workout too many times, every year I now grab myself by the shoulders, shake firmly and tell my self, "No, you will NOT start tomatoes yet."
This year I've scratched that itch with the Red Robin and it worked, too. It will be a lot easier bringing it inside this weekend against those lows in the 20's.
Those plants are looking good!

Finally plants are in their permanent homes. I did it this morning. Today is a perfect day weather wise. I put two grow bags in the yard waste/compost area. And no, the tomato cages are not piercing the bottoms of the grow bags.

Wow, you’re so far ahead of me; at least 2 weeks.
Love your TT cages, btw. I have a small fortune invested in mine.

Those cages were not cheap; I ordered them from Amazon, and they fit the 20 gallon grow bags perfectly. They are very sturdy.

Those look like really nice cages. Do you have a link? Perhaps we can post them in the Amazon ads at the bottom of the page.

Thank you. I will tell Rajun about them. If anyone from this thread sees them and wants to buy them, remember to access Amazon from the link at the bottom of the page in order to help support Tomato Junction.

African Brown, Black from Tula, and Cherokee Carbon. I can't wait to see what African Brown looks like because it seems that not very many grow it.

Buds on every plant except Cherokee Purple, which was a store-bought plant. The photo shows the buds on Snow White cherry.
I suppose it is possible I could have tomatoes in April.
