This will be the thread for any questions, and hopefully answers, about the swap. Questions are winding up in various threads, which I, and others, may miss.

Hello tormato
Could we add another category, the variegated?
There are so many variegated varieties nowadays so it would be cool. I can send in Nimu, variegated dragon and yellow surprise variegated.

I could give it a try. But, I don't know if you'll get anything back. I will edit the Categories list, and add it.
Faelan's First Snow was the last variegated variety, that I know of, in the swap. That was about 4 years ago.

Thank you. I take the risk and start off. But I think there are more people that will send some

Is sending you postage instead of money in my mailer cool? Making 100% sure while I start gathering things up. I'd say maybe 7-9 bucks in postage? Maybe? Idk, my PO people are jerks so I wanna be absolutely sure it's all good. I think I'll just include about 10 bucks in stamps (I have some 5 buck stamps, so not 10 bucks worth of forever stamps, lol)

It depends on what seeds you want back, Tomatoes, peppers and most other seeds are light in weight. Beans and peas (garlic? if any comes into the swap) are heavy. The maximum weight for standard shipping is 13 ounces, which ads up quickly if requesting several bean varieties. Above 13 ounces would then have to switch to a flat rate box. A bubble mailer (with the initial small envelope, mailed first, for wish list tomatoes only) should be about $7. A flat rate box or padded envelope should be covered by the $10. Stamps, cash or a mix of the two is fine.
Do not buy stamps at the PO, and insert them into your package, in view of any PO employee. The outcome of that is...
PARTICIPANTS - DO NOT USE AN "EXPRESS" FLAT RATE package, as the mailing cost is prohibitive.

Labeling question.
HOW do you want the individual bags of seeds labeled? Paper slip inside the bag? Paper slip taped to the outside of the bag? Adhesive label stuck to the bag? Etc.
Also,
WHAT information should be on the label? Variety, Year, anything else?

What I do is send a paid return label. Then the address is correct and easily readable, and if the Post Office calculator was correct then the postage return amount is correct.

Paper slips inside works the best, no chance of smudging or falling off. A few people do printed adhesive labels on the outside, must be expensive.Thin letters saves a lot of ink over unnecessarily thick letters. I've never seen paper labels taped to the outside. What possible disaster would you be setting me up for? Tape? And you're not even a Canadian?
Label info, a minimum of variety and year harvested. An example - Bacon Lettuce and This '24
Also, anything that is not an indeterminate, I would like to see that on the label, like "det", "dwarf", "micro dwarf", etc...However, not everyone does that, so it's up to each participant to research the variety.
Commercial hybrids with the "F1". Home grown crosses labeled "experimental", "F1", "F2", "F3", etc...if known.
Some will list bagged or unbagged (done more with peppers). And some will list their T'juction user name.
On a paper send in list, if people have nearly unknown rare varieties, I'd like a one time full description of those varieties.
And, there is no need to write "tomato" on the label.

@Tormato Is the length of the wishlist limited? If so, why don't you include this year's limit in the first post of the wishlist thread? Should I trim my wishlist down, if it is too long? Wouldn't be a problem ...

No worries Frosti, there isn't a limit on ones wish list. Many of us dream big and some bigger than others. We just like to have some fun around here. LOL
EDIT to say that Tormato really likes the list to be around 20. Anything more and you are known as a very hungry shark.

The cat's out of the bag (thanks to H

PER), as I find it very difficult to cut off wish lists. More than a long or short wish list, a wish list in ALPHABETICAL order, on paper included with mailed-in seeds and a username, is the biggest help for a smooth running swap.

If a scuba diver pees his wet suit when in the ocean, does he, the shark, or any other creature know about it?

Only because the seeds for Gandalf got lost in the mail...

I’m a little confused about the categories versus the general swap. If I send in seeds for a category, does that mean I will get back all the other seeds people submitted for that category whether or not they are on my wish list?
I have seeds for varieties I see on several wish lists, but not necessarily enough to send in 10 packets of each. Can I just send what I have for the general swap?

@MalachiteJen Good questions. Think of the swap as if it were three sections.
The first is your wish list. You list what you dream of having. People will see your list and if they have it, they will send it in for you. You may get everything on your list, or maybe just one. It just depends what comes in. Which leads to your question about how many to send in for the wish lists. You just need to send in one pack designated for the wish list person.
Next is the categories. You may or may not choose to enter any of them. If you do, you send in 10 packs of seeds for each category that you wish to enter. In return you will get back seeds from that category.
Then there is the bonus category or general swap. You send in seeds (how ever many packs you have) and request what types of tomato seeds that you would like back.
I hope that this helps.
