Site inundated with ads

Just logged onto Tomato Junction and I can't navigate the site without being inundated with ads! The ads are overwhelming and make the site unusable. Anyone else experience this?

I only see one small ad bar across the top and other ads down at the bottom the page. It doesn't affect my user experience in the least. I am using Google Chrome.

The ads will diminish soon. We have been experimenting with ads to try and get some revenue for the site.

Rajun is working on it: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=575&p=9117#p9117

It will also help if you use an adblocker. It does for me anyways.

There were Googles ads earlier, but they should be gone by now, with only the less obtrusive Amazon ads remaining. What kinds of ads do you see?

Mostly Amazon. Sorry I overreacted if you all are working on this issue. I understand that the site is expensive to run. I'm grateful that Rajun started this forum. Do what you have to do.

They should only be at the top of the header and the bottom footer. What device are you using?

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy tablet. The quantity of the ads has suddenly died down. Like you said there's only one at the top and one at the bottom. I can live with that, lol.

Your browser probably updated and those ads are gone. I'm trying to make the website pay for itself without making it a burden to navigate but I'm still testing ads to see where they show up and how many times. We'll get there, it's a work in progress.

Give Google an inch and they will take a mile.

It's my fault, they had a new Auto Ads option and I thought that would be easy but they want as many as possible to get that money. Consider me the Ad Nazi from Sinfield, NO Ads For You!!

I could easily get used to the ads at the top or the bottom if I had to. But they were sticking themselves right in the middle of what you were trying to do. Say, between the box with a comment and the submit button. It was a bit disconcerting. Those Amazon ads on gardening stuff aren’t bad but I would guess you wouldn’t make too much money on those. A person has to buy the stuff and you would probably get a teeny teeny percentage.

I am sure many people on this forum have bought products from Amazon at some point throughout the year. The Amazon affiliated link could help out considerably with costs related to keeping the TomatoJunction site active. By clicking on one of the products listed within the banner ad, you would be directed to the Amazon site, where any purchase made would help keep the site running. And if you were going to make a purchase anyway at Amazon, why not help out the site. And the way I understand it, you wouldn't even have to buy it today, you could just add it to your cart and as long as you finalized the purchase within 90 days, the site would get a small percentage. And it would not cost you anything extra. So if anyone is going to make a purchase sometime through Amazon, click on the sites link to Amazon and help Rajun keep the site running and mostly ad free.

I wasn’t suggesting people not use the amazon links if they saw something they wanted - just didn't think it would amount to much. If it amounts to a ‘considerable amount of money’ all the better. I am delighted to hear that. Especially as you say you are combining purchasing power from many people. If I saw something I wanted I would certainly click to help the site-the Fedex truck bringing my amazon purchases is practically a daily occurrence to my house.

I shop on Amazon frequently. You do not need to buy the products displayed in the ads to help TJ. You need to use the link to go to Amazon and then purchase whatever it is you would like whether or not it has been in an ad here.
I made my first purchase today using the link and it was not for any products listed here. Gotta support my favorite gardening forum. :) ;) :D

Nobody likes ads, but in order to run a subscription free site it's a small price to pay. Thanks Ragun for your time.

This site has the potential to grow very quickly. Advertisers might soon see it as being very attractive. Not a bad place to be in.

I remember way back when cities were bringing up to vote for or against Pay TV.
Many voted against it because I know for a fact some people thought the TV was going to be coin operated.
Like they were going to come in your house and install the things.
I heard this with my own two ears as a kid.
They thought TV should be free like it was a god given right or something.
Now all that stuff is common place and people dont give it a second thought.
Then there was the satellite dish that allowed you to suck up free Cable.
That didn't last long.

I just placed 2 orders at Amazon this past week. Now that I know about this, I will order through the links on this site instead of going directly to Amazon.

Glad to know this.

Sorry for the ads again, I'm working on making them smaller and changing the content of the ads. The problem is it takes a while for Goggle to populate ads and the placement, I added ads again this morning and they are just now showing up. I need to let Goggle finish loading all the ads then I'll make the changes so until then we're just gonna have to deal with it for today. Hopefully I can make the changes tonight and be done.
