The discussion thread here today about seed age reminded me that one of our local garden centers always clears out their previous year's unsold seeds during the winter to make room for the new arrivals, half price on everything. I stopped there today, and sure enough, they had three big seed racks and a cardboard box full of the closeouts. I spent a fun hour picking through them all and came home with twelve packs of Lake Valley and Burpee seeds for $14.66, or about $1.22 a pack.
They had some interesting vegetable varieties, including a lot of Renee's Garden seeds, but the tomato selection was pretty sparse -- Brandywine, Roma, Better Boy, Super Sweet 100, Tasmanian Chocolate, Yellow Pear, some 2nd-tier Burpee hybrids, and a few others. I'm kind of glad about that, because I really, really don't need more tomato seeds.

The parsley might not have a great germination rate, but I only need a few plants. All the rest should be fine for at least several years.
