Just got in my baby chicks from the mail. I had to go to the local Post office to pick them up. I could see (and hear) about 5-6 more package of chicks waiting to be pick up. Waiting for my daughter to get back from school since I know she'll want to name them.

I got Silked White Easter Eggers (1), White Crested Black Polish (1), Gold Kissed Granite Olive Egger (2)

I love watching the little chicks. I have been going to my farm supply store frequently this spring and I always stand and watch and pet the cute little peeps for a few minutes before I go get my things.

Your daughter is going to be so excited.

i like watching my chicks when i have them.
we have laying hens, and have done meat birds.
the meat birds are cute for a day or so, then they start
getting ugly. i think we will be getting some this year for the
freezer. also thinking about getting some bantams. i hear the
hens go broody all the time. bantams are always sold straight run
at tractor supply, so there could be roosters in the mix. i don't need
any more roosters, but thats how it is.

i am surprised that you could get just four chicks mailed to you.
minimums i have seen in the past is 15 chicks. goslings, and ducklings
might be five on the lower limit. enjoy the peeps.

Every day for the past week, I'll take away the chicks feed for a couple hours. Then when they get hungry I'll hand feed them. I want them to learn I'm their friend.

In the last couple days, I've taken then outside with me when I'm working in the backyard. I'll plop them down in the middle of the yard so I can see then at all times (making sure there's no darn cats around). It's fun watching them jump around,scratching in the dirt, chasing the occasional bug etc.
They will come to me when I call them over.

Two houses up they have laying hens and a rooster.
They're always in my yard and the rooster crows all the time.
I think the light makes him crow.
Never seen any babies.
They need to let the hens set so they can have babies.

Oh how precious, I so so miss mine, I had an incubator and it was a real delight watching them hatch then start to grow and hand feeding makes them so friendly, I really really envy you..sniff sniff. Enjoy!! XX Jeannine
