Anyone else suffering from this grave problem?

I think I have a final list and then someone brings up another variety, which leads to a new seed source, and a purchase of 5-10 different new varieties, and then I cannot plant them because I Don't. Have. Enough. Dirt.

Honestly, I wonder if I will get through my seed stash in my LIFETIME.

So difficult.

I hear ya! I'm trying to eke out every square inch of my yard, now I'm going vertical and adding pots, also looking for more stuff to grow in the ponds.

Me! Me!!! Most terrible problem it is.
I have lots of land, but not enough dirt. Stupid, greedy glaciers, what were they thinking.

In my world, not enough dirt includes IN POTS. I am in raised beds, grow bags, earthboxes, community garden plots and still NOT ENOUGH.

I bought four more earthboxes this year. Nope, NOT ENOUGH.

Now I am out of sunny locations for pots.

It's an illness.

I want more fruit trees, especially mangoes of other varieties. No more yard in the back, they'll have to go in the front, means the fruit will be up for grabs by passers by.

I know, that's what I've been saying. You can build on to a building but how do you build more yard?!? It's never enough!

Here! First off, the local "dirt" is clay, so any root crop is out of the question- they grow up out of the soil. And finding sunny spaces for tomatoes & other crops is not easy. I have to satisfy the Yard Police, so I can't have the yard look unattractive. Also, everything must be surrounded by deer fence if I'm to get a harvest. Thanks to several enablers (you know who you are!), my seed stash had to be moved to larger boxes.

I use hanging baskets, I put pots on fence posts, and will stick a grow bag anywhere. Last year I put three 20 gal. grow bags (tomato plants) in the compost heap/yard waste area. The tomato plants didn't know where they were and grew just fine.

I can only grow in containers, and our peak season is when the sunlight is the least, so cramming in more plants doesn't really work.

This year I bought extra earthboxes so I have replacements plants on dollies waiting to oust an existing plant.

I can't fight my neighbours Fir trees' roots anymore and my fig even grew up into one of the tomato pots last year. The branches above the vegetable garden were lush, I was only feeding the trees so I've been using pots.
This year I have counted out the pots I need and have distributed the soil I am going to recycle among them. They are sitting out in the rains to get flushed. Later I will add to and mix them as they are needed. Never done it this way before but so far, I appreciate that I haven't had a pile of soil to deal with.

You might try delegating. Maybe see if your friends, family, and/or neighbors will plant some of your plants for you, and allow you to visit.

Tell me about it...I've only been at this a few years...it started because I bought a box of SunGold tomatoes at a local farm, and liked them so much I decided to try growing some. The first year I grew 4, second year I was supposed to grow 4 but got a droopy one that I replaced and wound up with 6, last year I wanted to try a little variety, so I grew 8, all different.

I decided the 8 different varieties last year didn't result in enough "good" ones, so this year I was determined to plant "enough" good ones...I think that was going to be 18 or so. But a couple of weeks ago I stumbled onto that other tomato forum, tried to join, couldn't, however did see Artisan was offering some free seeds with any order...somehow wound up planning to grow an additional 10 Artisan varieties, along with a couple of Wild Boar, to boot!

At least I was able to join here where I have some compatriots. I'll be ok as long as my deck doesn't collapse under the weight of all the planters...

Go ahead, tomato seeds last for 5 years and often much longer.

The actual number of family & friends isn't important; the fact is that it will never be enough to grow all the varieties I want to grow!

I miss a partner to be with me.
Very hard to go out and work by myself.
I have plenty of area (1 acre) to grow things just no one to share it with.
Soil isn't the best but I know how to improve it.
