This was a very large bee robbing the nectar from Gold Star Esperanza.

I was in Lowe's a couple of days ago and spotted some potted flowers called Pericallis. I had never heard of these daisy-like flowers before. They are supposed to like cool weather. Anyway, they were so pretty that I bought two plants. They are attracting pollinators. I think this is some kind of fly.

It's a wasp beetle. It looks like a wasp, buzzes like a wasp, wanders over flowers like a wasp and will eat some insects like wasp. It isn't a wasp.....but if you ask him, he'll tell you otherwise.

Thank goodness that he doesn't sting like a wasp! Pretty looking thing for a bug.

Texas bluebonnet and nasturtium...both attracting combinations of hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies.

We have 2 new Honeybee hives and with the warmer temperatures they have been very active.
I noticed that they are really liking the turnip greens that have bloomed and are going to seed this spring. This bed is from a fall planting that I left.

If you look closely you will see the pollen on the honeybees hind legs. Honeybees collect pollen here in what is called pollen baskets. Amazing little creatures.

Nice. I’ve assembled my hive, now just need to order the bees. Not sure which kind to get, buckfast, italian, Carniolan, Russian. Nuc or package, too many choices

We bought 2 Nucs and they are a hybrid bee - Italian/Buckfast. They were installed into hives in late February. We got lucky with the weather and it never got too cold on the bees. I will post a picture of the hive set up tomorrow in case any one is interested.

I can't tell if this is a bee or a wasp. They were on the milkweed and the Vermillionaire cuphea today.

It's not a clear wing moth is it ? We get something similar here . Don't know but don't rule out moths from beds and wasps and beetles :-)

Looks like a male Strand’s Carpenter Bee. Texas is the only state where these are found and you are about as north as they get.
