Last frost is about mid April. Using one 100w full spectrum UFO LED light (300w equivalent). A heat mat is really helpful to starting seeds in cold climate. It's one thing that is more challenging compared to Florida.

The other thing I learned is putting a mosquito dunk into the watering can and watering the seedlings with it to prevent fungus gnats.

I'm growing the peppers early intentionally to give away, eating hot pepper isn't my thing.

If all those seedlings are destined for your garden you will have a nice harvest!

Max those peppers look fantastic. what kind are they? I was so sad last night when we stopped for supper at a local (new to me) Mexican rest. bah humbug. they could have used your peppers.

We moved here to AL from about 60 miles due north of Columbus. That whole central Ohio area is wonderful for gardening. We may start earlier here but most everything burns up by mid-July. Your seedlings look wonderful and that's a good tip about watering with a mosquito dunk. I will have to try that!

I'm not a pepper aficionado, just Ferry Morse seeds from the hardware store. I'm growing them more to give away. I will probably only keep the poblano and cayenne for myself. Poblano is my favorite pepper to grow I guess.

I don't have experience with Alabama growing, but I grew in South Florida which is very challenging. Finding heat resistant plants and variety is key. Also had to deal with root knot nematodes, so I grew mostly in containers.

A little early for the tomatoes to up pot, but I want to get it over with.

My tomatoes are leggy. I have to buy another 100w UFO light for next year. It's not warm enough for the next 10 days until I can bring them out.

I started the Opalka tomatoes 10 days earlier, but it's still slow compared the others. Next time I have to start them one month earlier, at the sametime as the peppers.
Surprised to see the red vein sorrel came back up. I'm never going to eat them, but they're attractive at least. Also the tiny hydrangea I bought last year survived. celery

Your plants are really coming along. My peppers are up and running but tomatoes won't be started for two more days. I really don't have enough room to start too much at once and then it's hard to protect them from late cold spells once they go out for pre-planting hardening off.

Had four sudden warm days so I brought them out. But then four more days of high 30s in the morning. And then a week of mid-40 to 60s. So expecting to transplant into containers and raised beds sometime between April 10th and 15th.

So transplanted outdoor last week for myself and everyone. Got a real cold night, I thought it would be just 32*F a few hours in the morning, it went down to 29*F. All the tomato plants are dead except for a couple and half of my peppers.

Right now I'm more interested in adding some fruit trees to my yard. Ordered dwarf cherry tree, muscadine grape not rated for my zone (really want muscadine though), and a blueberry plant.

Question, these plants died from frost. But the bottom half are still alive.

Most of them don't have exposed nodes though, will there ever be a new sucker growing out of them?

I don't know about seedlings, but old tomatoes sprout from stumps all the time. You can't get them to stop. That green stem doesn't look dead to me.

Really happy with the setup of the garden. 8 raised beds, 2 x 25gal grow bags, ~30 grow bags, 5 Earthbox. Should be a productive year, unfortunately no tomatoes for transplanting yet, gonna be 2 months late this year.

You have done a remarkable job creating your gardens. So very sorry about your tomatoes but better late than never. I had to start over one year and it did work out fine in the end.

This was not expected. I'm not eating these sorrels, but seems ideal as border plants for landscaping.
