This method of transplanting tomato seedlings into larger containers will save me a lot of time. Just wanted to share it, is somebody is uninformed as I was. The method starts at about 3 minute mark.

Believers in 'tomato taproot' would have a problem with that I guess! :)
I am pretty happy with the general branched and fibrous root system for my container plants, so this would work for me.
Nice technique with a chopstick... better than fingers.

This is interesting, I would have thought the stem would have snapped.

I saw this technique but using fingers on TVille. He's here too I believe but can't remember his name right now. The guy who showed how to do mass sowing into 1 pot per variety. Anyone else remember his name? My apologies to you if you read this.
It's a great way to pot up & yes the stems are very resilient.

Interesting. I use chopsticks, too, but only for planting seeds. Well, I use them for eating, cooking, and other stuff, too.

Why not? There is nothing brutal here - quite the contrary.

Now, culling and killing perfectly survivable seedlings, that is brutal and still it is commonly done by gardeners...
