Hello from San Diego

I just found this site :) I started at Garden Web and then to another tomato site that seems to be faltering. I recognize a lot of names here. I don't post a lot but I do generally read every day. My first impressions are positive. The ads are well controlled and acceptable. I prefer them to a paid subscription.

Welcome to the forum! I was born in San Diego - must be the reason I love chiles, even though I was only there for 6 months. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to the Junction, Rajun has worked diligently to keep the ad intrusiveness to a minimum as well as keeping the place running smooth and welcoming.

Welcome!
My family visited SD in December, what a beautiful city and lovely climate. I'm in love with all the succulent gardens! Would love to hear how vegetables perform there.

Thanks for all of the welcomes :) I am not in the city itself but in San Diego north county about ten miles from the coast. The weather is great most of the time. There are a few days each year when the wind blows from the desert and it is hot and dry and we have to watch out for wildfires :( We use the air conditioner about two weeks per year. We don't use central heat although my neighbors do. I grew up in New Jersey...I don't miss the winters.

I have grown vegetables but just tomatoes and summer squash now. I do well with squash in containers and the tomatoes do well in the ground. Water and gophers are the challenges. We get no rain in the summer. I have good success with drip. My avocadoes and citrus do well.

hi again and welcome. glad you found us. its a really nice undramatic friendly site.

how close are you to rancho sante fe drive? nowhere close or never even heard of it? or oh wow next street over? we have an elderly aunt and uncle who live there. wish we could get there/be there to help them.

I had to look on Google Maps and couldn't find a rancho sante fe drive. We are a little over ten miles from the north end of rancho sante fe road but it looks like it extends for about twenty miles. I would say we are in the same neck of the woods but not neighbors.

I agree about the character of the site. It is one of about a dozen sites I visit every day (4 forums).

I'd trade your challenges for mine! Heat, humidity, too much rain during the summer plus all sorts of bugs and fungal diseases
