General Discussion

If I may be so bold and arrogant to ask.
I would like to split up threads into categories as to type of equipment and material in question.
Be it wood metal and so on.
That and the machines involved.
I made mistakes on the other forum and had no ability to readjust the posts and or threads to make them more comprehensive and or conducive.
So I am asking anyone interested in what I need to do.

Hold up on posting too much, I'm still making new forums and categories to make it easy to find. I'll take all suggestions, so blast me with them.

Let's talk about what categories we want in here! I'm open to suggestions, let me know.

I have a few to start with,
Wood shop
Mechanic/Machine shop
On the farm

And this board can be a General discussion board.

Wood working.
Machine tools.
Metal fabrication/welding.
Mechanics.
Basic electricity.
This way it wont be scattered out all over the place like it was across the pond.
I left a lifetime of stuff over there and want to start over.

Let me check the time allowed to edit. How long do you think it should be?

I set it to 1 hour.

I think it needs to be set for a certain time. If you get comments and edit it some comments will look crazy. I also added the OP delete button. I didn't check it but it should work.

The reason I wanted to split up mechanics and machine tools is they have nothing to do with each other.
Metal fabrication and welding go hand in hand.
Woodworking is what it is.
Basic electricity should be on it's own.
Many times my projects involve all of them.
Like when I restored the 1947 wood lathe.

A pretty lathe there. My step father had one, but I seem to recall it was larger or maybe just more attachments. He taught me to make wooden bowls and stuff on it. I made my Mom a beechwood bread kneading bowl on that thing!
Together, trees make an ecosystem that tempers the extremes of heat & cold, stores lots of water, & makes a lot of humidity. In this environment, trees can live to be very old. To get to this point, the community must remain intact no matter what.

It was a pile of rust when my neighbor dumped it off in my driveway for free.
Soaked it in kerosene and mineral oil for a week before I started beating it apart.
Rebuilt it with my metal lathe and fabricated most of the non cast parts.
Many hours of work.

I finally found the free thing I needed to make a much needed kitchen gadget in the jobsite trash today.
Been looking for some time now, months.
It will be a simple engine lathe project.
Pretty excited about it. :D
