I just discovered that one of my seedlings is blind. No wonder it stayed so petite! It's a micro, so it wasn't obvious that it wasn't keeping up with the others. It just has two sets of second leaves opposite each other, and no growing tip.

Has anyone had any luck raising a blind seedling?

I get two other blind plants every season, I don't know what is due, but I laugh them straight away, I would also like to know if someone has grown a blind plane and why it happens

I've seen this happen in peppers. Nothing came of it for me. The leaves got a bit bigger, nada mas.

Blind ones seem to stay small & eventually die.

Why it happens is genetic defect or abnormality.
Not every egg or seed is perfect.

I'm wondering if I lop off one of the leaves, whether it will cause a sprout...…

Try it.

If possible, lop it as close to the base as you can, a tiny injury to the stem itself may stimulate it to put out a new growing point. Usually these these don't amount to anything. But I do recall one once that did eventually put out more leaves, but it was many weeks later, and the plant stayed stayed small and warped looking. I don't remember if it got saved and planted.

I never even heard of this before but it's interesting.

I have had them before and have one this year but never knew the term “blind seedling”. They have never done anything so will replace
this year's today with a good seedling needing transplanting.
