How Long Before I Can Use Oak Log In Hugelkultur / Core Gardening Bed?

A truck load of oak mulch delivered to my house in late December 2019. The load included several logs which I was not happy about but then I wondered if I can put the logs in the center of my garden beds as a hugelkultur / core gardening mound.

I researched it and confirmed that oak is acceptable for hugelkultur but what I am unsure about is when can the logs be used, especially considering that oak is a hardwood. I doubt if I will use it this growing season, but will it be sufficiently rotted a year from now?

Thank you.

Check with SQWIB - he’s done a ton of hugelkultur.
