Have seedlings growing for Snow White, Isis Candy, Black from Tula, Cherokee Carbon, Eva Purple Ball, African Brown, and JD's Special C-Tex. Plus I live in a large urban area which has nurseries that carry heirlooms. I have room for only 8 or 9 plants.

500+ varieties backlog on hand and waiting in more from Denmark and Romania. Only room for about 35 so there will be a lot of careful selecting. Always want a variety of colors and sizes. Won't know for certain for another month.

I thought I had everything all well planned. Now due to several factors, many new tomato, pepper, salad greens, herb & flower seeds have fallen in my lap. My planning is shot to heck. A lovely dilemma.

This is my 2020. Just recounted for a more accurate count. Growing 185 , sigh, swore not to grow more than 70 or 80.

Planted seeds Sept 27, 2019. But I had catastrophic seedling failure. Month later pitiful, stunted growth. Every one. Never happened before. Nothing to do with the seed source or weather. It rains a lot but I can protect them. But I reseeded and DH rescued stunted plants I didn’t think would grow but they did.

I reseeded the 3 hybrids, all of which I can’t do without. (Momotaro is still my favorite tomato.). DH rescued some of the sickly heirloom transplants and put them into what we call our hospital bed. Others he stuck right into the ground. Some of the labels did not go with them. Tomatoes with asterisk —I have at least one, label intact. But others have no label.
I also pitched some plants thinking they wouldn’t grow but all DH saved recovered. My bad.

Went on the ‘hunt’ for tomatoes to buy as well.

Don’t be impressed - I don’t know half of what is down in the ‘salt mines’. And many were tossed.
If I find something wonderful and don’t know it’s name at least I have the list and can narrow it down and regrow them next year.

It happened to me once already, spectacular tomato but no name (heirloom not a hybrid, saved a few seeds,
didn’t grow well , and those didn’t taste good) . Tried to regrow all the darks on that years grow list. Nothing matched my beloved unknown tomato. So I got a memory but no seeds.

The plants will be grown from seed and in fabric grow bags or raised bed. Last year I moved my growing area from my north west facing backyard and deck to southeast facing front yard. I located the grow bags on green plastic on the driveway. Cooked me some maters! Could not keep up with water needs, then early blight and some kind of wilt took the rest of them. My producers were in the raised bed (only room for four). This year I will try them in the yard. To heck with grass!

I also ordered (to trial) Sweet Chorus. My growing season is so short, I have to go for the 'earlies'.

I've been growing it and trialing it against other varieties since 2005 and it's won or tied for the favorite every year! Last year I finally stopped growing any other corn, which simplifies things since I don't have to worry about cross pollination between varieties ruining the flavor. We love its flavor and dependability, it's plenty sweet for us, and it resists smut, rust and Stewart's Wilt better than anything else I've tried. It matures right about 75 days in my 6b zone here in southeastern PA. Since it sprouts pretty well in cool soil, I begin sowing when the weather breaks, usually April 7-14, and sow a little bit in succession every 10 days or so until mid-July. That way we have sweet corn all summer and into the fall.

I can't resist growing this. The seeds are mesmerizing.

Great info, kath - thanks! I always worry about losing a season on an experiment. I can sleep a bit easier tonight.

My weather doesn't start to 'break' till about mid-May, and even then things can get a bit dicey. I was going to try starting some indoors and then transplanting, just to try to get a bit ahead. Those YouTube videos put wild ideas in my head... LOL

No, just asked what all everyone is planning on, tomatoes and perennials are fine too. Being nosy, LOL and I am always wonderfully amazed at the variety and methods we all use. I'm at the point of itching to get into the dirt right now and yet have to wait a week or more yet.

Never have grown Ambrosia corn, but grow Mirai corn , it is quick-ish at 74 days and so very good. Also it produces tillers and I often get 2 o 3 ears per plant. 2 On the main stalk and the tillers often produce an ear or 2.

You're so fortunate to be able to grow a SH2 (super sweet) variety. I don't think my soil would heat to proper germination temperature for those until August. LOL
