And it's not a make-work. If I get reports of no germination or off-types, and I still have plenty of seed, I set those aside, later deciding whether to toss them.

The pack contained 6 seeds. So, maybe it refers to 2010?

Possibly, but I sometimes split up a pack of a scarce variety, like Lucky Cross.

I'm currently winding down, and packing away seeds from the swap, setting aside seeds for someone in Europe for their garden next year, and someone in Australia for their next growing season. If I run across similar labels to Lucky Cross, they might give me a better clue.

Tomato sent far more varieties than I can find room for this year. I have negotiates with neighbors to grow a few, and allow me to stop by with cupcakes and coffee to visit some of the babies and see what we get.

A couple of those that didn't deliver all 4, did germinate a straggler several days later. Because I had no need to salvage them, at report they were discarded.

Perlina Schweden was a dissapointing one; one seed did send a radicle, but never pushed the stem over about 2mm out of the soil.

I have failures with something every year; I germinated 5/25 of seeds from 2004, 2/25 from 2012, and 1/25 from 2020 seed, all stored in the same manner (after sorting cataloguing and organizing they go in the freezer) Sioux tomato, 2015 seed from Delectation has yet to appear (more room!).

Gary, I'm sorry I won't be able to increase and return seed for Perlina.

super marconi the must grow bean has failed to show so far. i started eight seeds in doors
to get a jump on the season, and aint nuthin happening. i planted the last five seeds or so
outside a couple days ago. i will report back.

Hmm.... I thought Chernyi Princ was going to be a dark beefsteak type. Did I get that wrong? Either way, still looks like a lovely golden paste type.

@HL2601 Tatiana's Tomatobase describes Chyornyi Slon (Black Elephant) as, "Compact det. plants with potato leaf foliage. Large purple/black beefsteaks, 8-16 oz. Excellent flavor, juicy, smoky, and sweet."
I grew it this season with seeds from the MMMM. My largest were 1.5 oz. They were the size of large cherry tomatoes. They were good tasting, but a little tart.
What did others get?
Does anyone have seeds for a larger tomato?

karma peach regular leaf in other words, NOT karma peach is producing red medium size tomatoes.
i have just sampled one of them, and the verdict is very good taste. i will save some seeds in the event
i grow it out to see what develops with it or some else wants to take a stab at it keeping in mind that this
is NOT karma peach, and should be considered experimental.

My 2022 MMMM swap experience has been so much fun and so rewarding that it feels ungrateful to mention the issues I encountered, but it sounds like you want to know about these things, so here's my report:

Off-types:
Better Boy F1 -- 2/2 seeds germinated; one plant grown in garden. Produced fairly large (10-12oz?), very flattened, ribbed red tomatoes (kind of like Marmande) instead of round or oblate globes/beefsteaks. Blossoms were frilly and larger than Better Boy blossoms, almost like mega blooms or fused blossoms, and there was lots of catfacing and irregularity in the fruits. Fruits all got multiple sunken lesions while still on the vine, looking kind of but not really like anthracnose, plus bacterial speck symptoms. Adjacent Burpee Better Boy and Park Better Boy plants produced normal fruit in standard shape without these disease symptoms.

Goliath F1 -- 1/2 seeds germinated; one plant grown. I expected this to be standard Goliath (full-sized plant with regular foliage). I think what I received must be Bush Goliath F1. It was a very short, compact, dense plant with rugose foliage. Not sure if this is an off-type or just my misunderstanding of what was offered.

Dr. Suds Capon Bridge -- 2/2 germinated; one plant grown. I think this is supposed to be a large (10-18oz?) pink beefsteak. I got a small saladette approx. 2" across, basically like a large cherry tomato with two large, very juicy seed chambers taking up most of the interior. It seemed to be reddish/orange, not pink (but I forgot to verify the epidermis color before pulling the plant). Excellent taste.

Other Germination stats:
0% germination (0/2 seeds germinated): Gallego

100% germination (2/2 seeds germinated): Ananas Noire*, Oaxacan Jewel*, Armenian*, Alice's Dream*, Casey's Pure Yellow, Blue Ridge Mountain*, Rebel Yell*, Moruno de San Pablo*, Indian Stripe PL**, George Detsikas**, Guido*, Cuostralee, Wes*, Kosovo

* means I grew this to maturity and fruits were true to type; ** means I grew this to maturity but am not familiar enough with the variety to know if the fruits were true to type; no asterisk means I gave away the plants and don't know how they turned out

Here is my 2022 report. I grew 70 tomato varieties, 50 from the MMMM, and 16 pepper varieties, with 9 from the MMMM. It wasn't the best year, with a poor weather, and production was not good for any variety. I really did enjoy growing such a wide assortment of tomates that would not have been possible without this swap.

I am including seed source, where possible, to help identify the package, not to 'out' the seed provider.

No Germination:

Kapidag Red, MdtnGrdner '18 - 0/2, 0/2

Summertime Green, Scooty '19 - 0/2, 0/2

Cow Horn Pepper, Spike '21 - 0/2, 0/3

Mixed Up Seed?

Marzano Fire, Green label '21 - 1 wispy leaf (true), 1 rugose leaf. Found out the rugose was one of Heide's Micros. A really great tasting small red salad/large cherry.

Wild Fred, no year - 0/2, 1/2. Wrong leaf, fruit. Smallish salad type. Greenish with red stripes. Maybe similar to Black & Brown Boar.

Groovy Tunes (micro), no year - seeded in Feb, and grew indoors. Wrong leaf type and colour. Grew a 6-foot spindly plant (indoors!) which produced two dark hearts.


@rxkeith -- I sent in KARMA Peach '21 so it could possibly be mine, as seed wasn't bagged. I will do a better job this year labelling my packages with date, variety description and my TJ handle to help sort out whose seeds they are. I would sure like to find out if any mixups are mine~!

It's supposed to be a black beefsteak. It must have crossed . It doesn't look like anything I grew last year either. I hope it at least turned out to be a useful kitchen tomato.

It's frustrating to see that people are having issues with the F1 Hybrids. That means that the vendors and everyone else are not getting what they paid for.

This year's season was a bust due to my father's health and having to coax him into assisted living, but I have a good amount of seed put away from last year and would be happy to include them. They have a reputation of being a pain to grow - giant vines + late and doesn't like extreme heat, but they were happy here in Z6 with light afternoon shade and managed to adapt to a 7 ft trellis with the overgrowth spilling forward over tall tomato cages. The flavor was well worth it for me though and I'd love to see more people growing and sharing seed.

Frank’s pepper dated 2021 from the last swap produced lots and lots of thin peppers, 4” x 1/2” — much thinner than they are supposed to be. They are sweet, no hint of heat. I had 3 plants and they all produced the same peppers.

I will check swap sources for 2022 Frank's (saved- likely unbagged, and/or commercial).

I'll do the same for Nick's Thin Skin, which may be the same pepper.

The Frank's I sent in for the 2022 swap were true to type. However, I did not bag anything so a cross is possible for all the seeds I send in.

Another not true to type pepper from last year's swap was labeled Habanero Pink (or Pink Habanero). It's much more like a 7-Pot White, and hotter than hell. Good pepper though, lol.
