It's that time of year again in Texas.
The smell of grape bubble gum or soda pop.
Texas mountain laurel.
Growing next to job site.
Yaupon in the background.

Yes, that’s an unforgettable fragrance. The pretty red beans were evidently important to the native peoples of the region and beyond. Decorations, medicinal, visions, as a trade good, these beans got around. Toxic, but not without some useful properties.

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
I gathered about a gallon of the seeds and gave them to a Kiowa friend of mine to make beads.
If you soak them in tea they turn purple.
He showed me a picture of his triplet granddaughters wearing the bead necklaces and buck skins.
First triplets recorded born in the Kiowa nation.
It takes some time to get the red seeds from the pods.

I can't go anywhere without that confounded coworker of mine taking a picture of me.
I wasn't around him all day.

Free charging stations at my neighborhood mall. There are four of them outside of Macy's. This car is a nice looking Tesla.
There are many more charging stations at other locations around the mall.

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
I saw what I think was a beautiful rat snake crossing the road the other day.
No time to take a picture but I stopped in the middle of the road to my house so it could have a safe crossing.

The bench (overlooking Gitche Gumee and the Apostle Islands) I dedicated to the lovely and long suffering Mrs. Gotch ten (10) years ago

The Gotch engaged in his favorite Northwoods activity; draining brown-bagged 40s during spectacular days at Saxon Harbor.
And yes, it's no illusion; I have big (14EEE) feet...

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
First off I had this spider land on my arm while getting in truck in the morning.
Had to put her in a safe place.
She was about the size of a half dollar.
Next is coworker helping pull some wire at a school we are working at.
In in a lift out in the hallway.

On the way home from the grocery store this morning, I got caught in the annual neighborhood 4th of July parade. I wasn't going anywhere until it passed.

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
Not a good picture, but it was moving pretty fast (for a short, squat animal). This is an armadillo by the garage.
It is the state small mammal of Texas. Yes, there actually is such a thing as the "official state small mammal".

Unbelievably beautiful rainbow on the way home.
Big thunderstorms to the left not in pictures.
When I got closer it touched the earth on both ends.
Then I drove under it in Bastrop.
