46 degrees this morning at 7am. Forecast high is 92 degrees, close to a daily record. Humidity expected around 10%, great time to get some things done in the morning.

Wet and windy here Down Under this morning, looking at a high of 50F if we're lucky, with anything upto 1.5inches of rain. we have had 18 inches so far this year, as against 4 this time last year and an average of somewhere between 7 and 8

It's been very windy here for a couple of days, with gusts today getting in the 50s, and a bad storm is coming through this evening - just starting to hear the thunder. Supposed to get a couple inches again from this one. This is why I delayed my tomato planting!

Well, despite the predictions, not much came here, except wind. Only .37", and it's pretty much over. Looking at the radar, S Jersey got spared from the rain, but the wind did damage all over. A lot of power outages, but not in my county.

This danged cool weather is about over, I hope. Warm days and very cool nights. It was 45 this morning and I'm sure nothing in the garden likes it.
Highs the next four days will be 89, 88, 91, 81. More importantly the lows will be in the mid 60's.

By now I'm calling the Duke bush beans a bust as not a one has popped up in 14 days. In December the seed tested at 100% germination. As soon as the soil temp gets back I'll either resow with Duke (after another germ test) or plant Blue Lake bush from the feed & seed.

I am kind of happy with the rain we're getting after reading about Whwoz's. Although I do have a good puddle down in the valley aka drain I blame that on the snow that's still being melted by the long, gentle rain. We expect to have 50 mm total by Tuesday, and about 70 mm by next Monday, so plenty of rain but over the right amount of time, hopefully it will not be too wet to plant at some point.
When I set up my new compost pile on Friday I came to a halt because there was nothing green to put on. Grass still brown, no weeds to pick. But today I see some little weeds greening up and becoming recognizable. Can't wait to dig em out.

Whwoz I believe the average figure is 1550 mm per year, including snow. That is quite a bit, but it tends to be spread out relatively evenly compared to what I see happening on the continent, with inches at a time. Now and then we have a bad storm with 50 mms or more, the worst have been 90-150 mm tops. 10-20 mm at a time is what we get fairly frequently. We rarely have thunderstorms here and that may be the reason. Hurricanes can strike here, not generally more that Cat 1 at worst though.
I find it interesting that parts of the landscape appear to have been carved by water. Natural drainage features which are rocky and hardly a bit of soil. But maybe the glaciers made those, IDK, or else we had extreme rain in some other period. The 'drain' next to my house is really a catchment. Water fills up there and slowly filters down into the groundwater I guess. In one place it stays boggy and there may be a spring feeding it, but overall my guess is that the 'mother rock' ie a solid cliff under the ground is close to the surface there, and the earth was washed away from being filled up with water so many times.

What we call baby weather here over last 24 hours, wet and windy. About an inch of rain and winds up 50mph.

C-C-C-O-L-D!!!! Low 40's and down to mid 30's tonight with frost expected. If this was Michigan's UP it would be nothing extraordinary but in Alabama almost the middle of May it is awful. We have cardboard boxes over the tomato plants & a cover over the pepper plants. We had just planted bean, corn, cucumber & herb seeds last week. So I imagine everything will need to be replanted. I know the herbs will. A feral cat, I just discovered today, is using my herb planter as a bed. I know, it could be worse, but she's pawed the soil around to suit her. What I get for feeding strays but anyhow tomorrow early afternoon we will get everything uncovered. Tomorrow night's low is supposed to be about what it is out there now. And back into the low 80's by the end of next week. Or so "they" say.

Was 30*F overnight, a few small plants died, but nothing major. Still waiting for the season to start.

We have an old weather proverb saying to wait with planting outside till mid May, because this is the date of the so-called "Ice Saints", i.e. a late frost. These Ice Saints were bishops or martyrs in the 4th or 5th century. In the past years, the saints did not appear, so I could have planted way earlier without risking any frost damage on the tomatoes. Therefore this year, I planted 10 of my hanging baskets about 2 weeks ago, when the weather (day and night) was already beautiful and mild. But: This year, the Ice Saints will come! Even absolutely in time (May, 11 - 15)! So I put all the trays with seedlings into the living room to have space in my small greenhouse for the hanging baskets, sigh... During the day, all trays remain on the terrace and at night, they return into the living room. I'm only glad that I did not plant ALL hanging baskets (24) - I would not know where to put them.

We are outside the blue blob thank goodness but it has trapped a big low over us which continues to swing around with dumps of rain every two days and some gusty winds. No white stuff in my area except for what is still on ground taking forever to get rid of. Yes I trampled some today, still moving brush out of the cut area by the house. A grouse has been in the garden two days in a row, and I know if I don't move it she'll have her nest and eggs laid in the middle of the mess, then I'll have to leave it there until she's done!

Amazing. I almost don't remember the humidity and heat. We sometimes creep up to the high 80s but rain comes and cools everything down. The tomatoes are loving it too and the bugs are kept at bay. We're about to get a big stretch of T-storms and rain starting Thursday but crossing my fingers that it won't be too much rain and the cool weather continues into early June so my tomatoes can ripen!

We’ve had an amazing spring here. Not a lot of heat, probably about ideal for many types of tomatoes, not much rain where I am, more cool nights than normal. Not one tomato horn worm, no blight, no stink bugs, and overall few pests, a flea beetle here, an army worm there and those now seem gone. Dew points pretty tame and comfortable. It has been a good spring for a garden.
