Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
i put stanley in the coop overnight, and everything was ok. problem is
the little thing is just too frail to keep up. while momma, and siblings were having a
little excursion through the tall grass, stanley was standing by itself in front of the coop
looking forlorn. i put the chick back in the box with the meat birds. i don't know if i did the
wee thing a favor by saving it or not. where there is life there is hope they say. time will tell.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
Since Ramadan moves backwards 11 days every year at times it would fall in the middle of summer.
No big deal right?
Well if you lived above the arctic circle or below the antarctic circle this would mean the sun would never go down starting at the circle at least one day and the closer to the poles more days without the sun going down.
What does this mean for the followers of Islam you might ask.
Well during Ramadan you can't eat after sun up or before sunset.
But of yet again if it fell in the dead of winter you could eat practically 24 hours a day.
Something to contemplate.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
here is a mystery for ya,
a local person was remodeling her porch where she came upon a surprise embossed on the floor boards.
what she found was a white star inside a white circle that was inside a square or diamond that has a red
outer stripe, and a white inner stripe. background could be blue or just darker because of the light.
lots of different things on the internet with pentagrams. she has checked military info going back a number
of years. she also has checked for a local connection without any definitive results. the house was built in
1914, so it isn't any older than that.
any ideas what it could be?

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I worked harder today than I would have at work.
My neighbor knocked me up this morning to help him get his Shelby Mustang Cobra on a trailer.
Not an easy thing to do.
It's so low we had to build up the floor of the trailer and take one of the fenders off so he could get the door open to get out.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
The reason he came over is he was worried about me.
Hasn't seen me in days and I was so tired when I got home yesterday I left the garage door open and my garage lights on.
Now let me say something about my garage lights.
They are 5 100 watt equivalent CFL lights 4 out from the corners and one smack dab in the middle.
Looks like the lighting of a movie set.
Did all the wiring and fixture setting myself before I put sheetrock up.
When I moved in there was one sorry 40 watt light in the middle.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
stanley has been brought into the house. poor little thing was just getting knocked around too much
by the fat boys. the meat chicks are only three days older than stanley, but are three times the size of
him at least. he now has a quiet box to himself in the living room. his eight siblings outside with momma
are about double the size of stanley. we will see what a quieter environment does for him.
cute little thing.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
i have never had a chick quite like stanley.
he is two weeks old now, and is still the size of maybe a three day old chick.
his hatch mates are three times his size. wing feathers developing normally. the chicks
are fluttering in and out of the coop, and on to low hanging branches of the huge lilac bushes.
tail feathers are starting to grow out. stanley has stubby little wings with some feathering. he still
has a fuzz butt. the little thing is way behind in development, but is holding its own. he seems
a bit stronger than before. i think he will live. he is certainly going to be the most held chick we have
ever had. my son has been putting stanley in the coop at night with momma, and chicks, just so he knows
he is a chicken, and we bring him in during the day because he doesn't have a clue about sticking with momma.
plus, he still doesn't have the stamina to keep up even if he wanted to.
so for now, we have a house chicken. we just have to keep the dog away from him. our dog will sit there licking her
lips as she watches us holding stanley. NO!!!!!! stanley is not for eating i tell her.
silly dog.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
i suppose you are all anxious to hear how stanley is doing, so
here is an update.
stanley is out of the house, and running with the herd.
all credit goes to my wife and son for helping him along.
my wife was giving him little challenges, and using her anat baniel method
training to help stimulate his neurological development.
there was the hill climb where my wife would hold stanley on her lap in the
rocker recliner chair, and have him run up her torso to her neck.
there was the balance beam with stanley walking on my wifes arm.
my wife also would cup him in her hands, one leg in each hand, and gently push up
alternating hands. ABM works on people, why not chickens.
my son decided that stanley could stay outside all day tuesday with supervision. stanley
was a little confused about what to do. he wasn't sticking with momma, and siblings all the
time, and would end up alone. my son would put stanley back with momma, and he would be
ok for awhile, and then it would be where did everybody go again.
wednesday, everything clicked. stanley stuck with the gang all day long, and was able to get in and
out of the coop without help. i think he is a smart little bird.
stanley is still a shrimp. his siblings are easily three time his size. its hard to believe they are the same age,
but for a day or two. i am really curious if stanley will eventually catch up with the other chicks or will
remain a dwarf. he is still a cute little thing.
my son, thinks stanley is a girl.

Strange goings on next door.
Seems the lady's sons she always bragged on hate each other
One trying to get me involved and I want no part of it.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I have volunteer tomato plants in my containers.
They look great and even have blooms.
No idea what they are and don't expect fruit in this heat.
What's amazing is there is no sign of disease.
I have done nothing but water them only once.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
stanley update
stanley is doing just fine. she is growing, and has learned to forage for bugs, and grubs.
when your head is only 4 inches or so off the ground, bugs are easy to see. stanley is still TINY
compared to the chicks, but none of them are picking on her or anything. she appears to be healthy.
broody momma decided yesterday that the chicks were on their own. for the first month, she saw to
their every need, protecting them with all the fierceness of a mother bear. now, they are pretty much
on their own. i did see her shepherd them into the coop last night, but the cord is about to be cut.
momma was up on the roost last night for the first time while the chicks were piled in a nesting box.
it is pretty amazing how nature works.

We were working in a school today and were in the band room.
They had a piano.
My work mate Salazar flipped out when I started playing it.
Did the Pink panther song for him too.
Plus a couple of other tunes.
He had no idea I could play the piano.

worth1 I wouldn't be surprised, roll back a further few hundred years and it was well documented that marriages were arranged to prevent war and create alliances. I think Henry viii even married one of his many wives on the basis of a painting of her. I think it was a picasso.

The house of Windsor use to be the house of some German name i can't pronounce.
It was changed due to anti German sentiment.
The house of Windsor is the house in power now.
Ever so often I go back and follow the royal bloodlines.

worth1 saxe-coburg and gotha. We are all so interrelated both red blooded and blue blooded. Hence my joking about pure English previously. We are all the same and joined, whatever tribe we think we are in.
