Sweetest Tomatoes

Hibor has a really sweet unique flavor when I pick one that’s bright, almost neon orange. But so far only one in ten is picked at the right time. They don’t seem to ripen more once picked.

That's interesting about Hibor not ripening more after being picked! I had to pick them before their prime many times because of rain in the forecast, and they never turned orange or tasted that great, but when I was able to pick them ripe off the vine, I thought the flavour was sweet. They also diminished in size as the summer wore on. I might grow Hibor again because it's great for snacking while working in the garden, and it seems to be happy in a tomato cage .

I would add Lucky Cross and a dwarf out of the dwarf project that I can never spell correctly, wherokowhai, a very similar tomato to Lucky cross. Their secret to sweetness is that, for me at least, each plant only makes 3 or 4 fruit.

Wherokowhai had more than 3 or 4 tomatoes when I grew it. A real beauty, too. (I don't know where my notes are packed). It may not have produced as much as other varieties but was a nice tomato.
