This is the perfect storm I always predicted.
We get cold and we get rain but never much at the same time.
I always knew they would come together one year and they did
I heard someone complaining about the internet being down at the store and I busted out laughing out loud.
It totally ticked him off but he shut up.
I tried to get up the hill twice and backed down.
The second time backing down I got sideways and came to a stop.
The first time a cop stopped to see if I was alright and he was very nice.
Every Bastrop police I have ever met is nice.
My trip out was a recon mission for tomorrow.
It was worth it.
I thought out of some idiotic reason mine was the only road covered in snow.
Nope the whole area.

Next on WSN Worth Snow News is the rolling blackouts.
They aren't.
They are just shutting select areas down.
Keeping grids in areas where hospitals are powered up.
Also one city I think Kyle Texas has told customers to stop using water.
Something to do about water pumps with no power.

I used to keep 4 wool blankets in my car to get me out of trouble in the ice and snow.
It takes a bit but it works.
Lay blankets down drive onto next set.
Move back blankets to front of other blankets.
Repeat as necessary.

Even the Natural Gas and Coal fired generators having issues with the cold along with the wind turbines struggling with ice. Nothing here is built for the cold.

I was testing the fire protection at the main gas turbine generation facility in Alaska and turned the bypass switch
The bypass switch has two contacts.
One to turn the bypass on and the other to turn on a light that said it was in bypass.
This was the pre heater for the gas before it entered the generation station.
The bypass part of the switch didn't work.
It almost shut off all the power to the west side of Prudhoe Bay at 30 below zero.
We had about 15 minutes to get everything reset and the heater back on line
Obviously here in Texas they didn't think about a pre heater because it never gets this cold.
Thats my idea anyway.
Might be wrong.

We lost power at 5:00 a.m. this morning and the power has not been back on since. The house is very cold. The temperature tonight will be 17°. A lot of folks have it worse.

That's colder than it got here. Hopefully it will kill off some of the garden pests for you and not too many plants.

Interesting that in the whole article, there's not one mention of frozen windmills and covered solar farm panels......It wouldn't do to mention the frailties of "green" energy.

I heard an interview where the guy reported that there was a cold weather package/option they chose not to get for the wind power generators.

Yes, hopefully it will kill off some of my garden pests, lol. The loss of the plants is all right. I can replace them and maybe try some different things. Everything will be okay.
