Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I have a really good friend I used to work with.
He plays rhythm guitar in a country band but finally got sick of the music and is I think starting up his own band.
He plays for money and extra income in the Austin area.
He used to in a younger life play in New York.
He's the person that inspired me to take up bass.

No he was only going about 5 or 10 miles an hour.
Just enough to screw up the back of the van.
He said he had his head turned yelling at another driver.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I served on my first jury that ever went to trial, this being a criminal case. Jury selection, 72 people whittled down to 12, was last Monday, verdict was read Friday at lunchtime. Lots of breaks and we didn’t meet on Tuesday, Halloween. Oh boy, jury selection was interesting hearing the perspectives of the potential jurors, I can see why they got eliminated. Reasonable doubt tripped up a lot of folks, some evidently cannot convict without the evidence showing 100% certainty. Others simply cannot send someone to prison no matter what. Then there were the folks that had trouble with law enforcement. Finally, some had been victims of crimes similar to what the accused was on trial for and felt they could not be unbiased.
The defendant, a 37 year old white male, plead guilty after the second witness for the prosecution testified so that then we the jury had to come up with the punishment at the conclusion of the trial. We still got to hear all the testimony and witnesses for both sides, the closing statements, everything.
We deliberated for an hour on Thursday afternoon when it became clear that we were too far apart to finish Thursday at a reasonable hour so met again Friday morning for continuing deliberations and after about two hours came to our verdict on sentencing.
Originally, 5-99 years was the possible range of sentencing we could impose, but with the guilty plea mid-trial it was dropped to 2-20 years. Jury was 7 women, 5 men. Four white males, from 69 years old to about mid 30s, one I’m guessing Pakistani male based on name and appearance in his 20s, two black females in their 50s to 60s, one white female about 30, three latina females from young to senior, and an Vietnamese women around 65. Overall, I’d say a very representative jury taking into account the demographics and educational factors of our county.
At the start of deliberations about 7 jurors including myself were for 20 years, the maximum sentence, and the rest were mostly around 10-15 years. We bounced around ideas, talked alot, shared our concerns, laughed a fair amount, especially about the attorneys going after each other, all agreed there was zero sympathetic things about the defendant’s family and himself and he and his family, mom, girlfriend, anyone, had zero interest in their 13 year old son and 11 month old daughter. The children weren’t in their custody and for good reason.
We all agreed on 18 years. He might serve 4.5 years unless he messes up in TDCJ. He’s been in before so he knows the drill. His mom plead for a second chance, but the second chance was about five felony convictions ago. No job, he and his buddies and GF lived on the proceeds criminal activity. Stole a wedding DJs super expensive equipment so he could not earn a living, stole industrial fans so a small business owner could use those to earn his living. Stole a $45,000 boat and sold it for $1,500. Broke into a recently deceased man’s home and stole his car and tried to sell the home. Quality individual.
Nearby Harris County (Houston) gave him 6 days in county earlier this year and he got credit for time served so he literally walked out of their courtroom a free man. Same basic crime, six days.
He came to the wrong county to commit crime this time around.

Many people know I'm a huge fan of mineral oil.
I use it on almost everything.
I wanted to oil my feet board on the bass and used a pinch of CRC 2-26 food grade mineral oil with a cloth towel.
Just now I looked up oil to use on fret board for guitars.
Low and behold it was mineral oil.
I've also got some pretty expensive exotic wood at the house I need to do something with.
The guy at the guitar center suggested I build guitars.
I just might take him up on it.
Something I've always wanted to do anyway.
Lord knows I have the ability and equipment.

Everyone has their own taste but there's good music, both pop and rap being made today. You have to dig a bit to find it because you probably won't hear it on the radioworth1 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 5:28 am Most hilarious description of pop and rap music I've ever read.

KUT 90.5 basically NPR.
KUTX 98.9 plays music of all types.
Right now they're playing David Essex, 'Rock On, of all things.

Pretty much a train wreck of music that doesn't relate to each other because the people running it don't have a clue how to put a play list together.
That's why it's called a train wreck in the industry.
An example would be Led Zeppelin followed by The loving spoonful or some such rot.
There are ways to get there but gradually not all at once.

Several nights in a row the new neighbors gunned car engines right next to my bedroom wall.
Last night I practiced bass with the amp turned up with the gain and overdrive on.
Did it for about an hour or so.
I hope they liked it.

meal train
the ladies at the church are a pretty tight, and supportive group.
when ever a baby is born, the women see that dinner is provided for the family
for a couple of weeks. we will also do it if a family has a pressing need.
today we made dinner for the aho family. they just had a baby girl.
baked chicken thighs, red, white, and purple garden potatoes, garden carrots
along with some broccoli, and corn for a color medley.
dessert was chocolate moose tracks ice cream.
does anybody else do something like this?

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
Yes, my wife experienced this with her children way back when. I’m told our current church also does this when anyone has a baby, or is sick, or for various reasons. Our particular small group from our church is all 50 or 60 somethings and might bring dinner, etc for X amount of time for people, relatives, etc. and/or others that we hear about.rxkeith wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 5:40 pm meal train
