Front just literally blew through northern AL. Start to finish of the bad stuff was 10 minutes. Watching pictures coming in from surrounding areas it's amazing how much damage can be done in that amount of time

Re: How's your weather?
We had snow and cold in December, but now all of the snow is gone and the temperatures are above average with most days above freezing. I noticed today that spring flowering bulbs are starting push shoots and leaf buds on raspberries are swelling and there are some tiny leaves already on the branch tips. Usually we will get some -20°C temperatures in February, so I hope we will get snow on the ground if that happens.
With the green grass it looks more like April than mid January, only the low angle of sun and short daylight time give impression of winter.
This is really not our typical January forecast. Sari

svalli that is extreme!
We get thaws here every month of the winter, but 2-3 days would be a long one. I can't imagine ten days above zero this time of year! Wow.

I too hope that you get some snowfall and chilly weather soon before the buds advance and get ruined from the cold. We had an early warm up a few years ago. The trees all budded and then the cold came back and froze them out. We lost an entire cherry crop in this region the apples survived though. The weather has been crazy lately.

Re: How's your weather?
That nasty line of storms came through here last evening and we were fortunate that it had lost the pep in its step by the time it got here. 8/10" of rain fell in about five minutes and then it was over. No high wind.
Got a t-storm grumbling in the area right now. Unfortunately that front did nothing to cool it off. Four more days of mid 70's one day at 57 then back to 70. I sure hope the nematodes aren't waking up with increased soil temps!

Re: How's your weather?
Just checked our extended forecast. The next 4 days highs are in the 60's then the rest of the next 2 weeks highs will range from mid 40's to mid 50's. Yeah, everything is starting to bud/bloom already. Some things, like the daffodils, we can always toss a couple of bags of mulch over if it gets winter for a while but I'm really fearful for fruit trees in the area. I remember a year with no fruit and I was hoping for never a re-run of that. On the other hand if we don't get winter for at least 6 weeks we will be so inundated with bugs it will be unbearable. Anybody have a direct line to Mother Nature?!?

Nearly 100F here today, very smoky, visibility down to around 600 yards. Currently a good thunderstorm in progress. Only problem with the rain is it has washed a lot of smoke into peoples water tanks

Re: How's your weather?
We're in the storm preps again with a huge blizzard starting overnight and continuing into Saturday. 70+ cm of snow is expected. Big Red will be retired in favor of the snowshoes when this is done... I ain't no fool!
On the down side I may not be online for a couple of days, as this snowstorm with gale force winds for about 7 hours Friday night, gusting (forecast) 130 kph in our area and 150 kph elsewhere is certain to cause damage and power outages. Our linesmen, god love them, will brave anything but depending on where the lines go and how much snow is in between, it will take time to restore to working order.
Meanwhile I will be snug and well fed and safe, just winter as usual with some extra snow.
I know Keith will laugh because they go through it every year! .... we're lucky and perhaps a little spoiled.

Today, it snowed hard for a bit. Then the sun shone & dried everything up. Repeat. Repeat. Nothing stuck. Just baffling.

Heard on the 1st news of the day that your part of the world has been declared to be in a state of emergency. Everyone is to stay at home, no work, no business are to open and no one is to drive unless it is an emergency.Bower wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 6:00 pm We're in the storm preps again with a huge blizzard starting overnight and continuing into Saturday. 70+ cm of snow is expected. On this coast our winter weather is going to break into warmer temps with high winds and more snow tonight. Should be raining tomorrow.

Re: How's your weather?
Blizzard is over here but state of emergency continues due to record breaking snow. Roads are impassible and they're still trying to get crews to repair the many power outages. Winds are still pretty high as well and windchill -24C. I only lost power for a few minutes last night so I'm cozy and warm and the sun is even shining and warming in here. No house damage and no trees down. Got lots of personal snow (and twigs!) but don't feel like shoveling, and my door is not even blocked thanks to the wind. Taking it easy. Nowhere to go.
