I did these scarecrow this morning to put the fear into the squirrels. Hope they work, if but a day.

Better photos of the scarecrows. Don’t know if they will work on the squirrels. I placed them on the approaches to the tomatoes. If they work just for today, it’s a big win. I’ll be around most of the weekend so I can do the scarecrow work myself.

I might change up the look and move the scarecrows around some just to keep the enemy squirrels off balance. Maybe they might get distracted by laughing too hard and forget eating the tomatoes.

I believe it was worth the fifteen minutes it took to make them.

"Squirrels have some senses that function much better than others. Their hearing is so good that the sound of a big bird’s wings beating against the air can send a squirrel leaping right into a nearby tree and running for cover. Squirrels also see motion very well also. If a bird’s shadow zooms across the ground near a squirrel, he’ll quickly turn and dart up a tree. But stationary things, are hard for squirrels to identify."

A bit of flapping row cover works pretty well for me.
Wonder if a 'pennant fence' would work.. On the wind that is.

Slim and Shorty, wife prefers the monikers “dumb and dumber”, but, anyway, whoever they are are taking a break and unwinding from the excellent service they provided guarding the tomatoes.

They did a fantastic job protecting the tomatoes today. A few sun sugar tomatoes got eaten, but I told Slim that just take care of the slicers, the squirrels are free to have whatever cherry tomatoes. He took me at my word and simply wanted a cold libation as his reward. Shorty has had a little previous issue with overindulgence so he’s more into tea and that kind of refreshment.
