Moving to Mexico??
It's possible.
I have a Mexican friend that been bugging me for years to move to Mexico down by Mexico City.
He has land down there and said I could move there.
I could really live a lot better there than I could here.
I've known the guy for 20 years.
Mexico City is over 7000 feet in elevation and the surrounding areas are beautiful.
Something to consider for sure.

Here’s how to have a garden there.

Not for sure how far or what direction he is from Mexico City or the elevation change.

Mexico City is 7,300’ asl. Climate at that altitude and latitude is spectacular.

Better check water availability, the news as of yesterday shows no real good water to drink all around the lake they settled on.

Well that's going all to hell here in Texas with all the people moving in.

You'll need to thin out your gun collection. They have some unusual laws:

Yeah I've read the laws and not too keen on giving up my guns.Cole_Robbie wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 1:20 pm You'll need to thin out your gun collection. They have some unusual laws:

The caliber restriction is something I haven't seen before in a gun law. From that quora link:worth1 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 2:23 pmYeah I've read the laws and not too keen on giving up my guns.Cole_Robbie wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 1:20 pm You'll need to thin out your gun collection. "Citizens can not own guns with caliber larger than .38 (.38 special , .38 magnum, 0.357, 9mm and anything like that or larger is considered as Armed Forces exclusive use)"
So you just have to use a lot of small bullets.

That was such a generous offer. One that should get some consideration too. There are pros and cons to everything these days and you need to chose what is right for you.

Re: Moving to Mexico??
I know of a recent story of someone, an American citizen, that accidentally brought into Mexico in his carry-on, he got nabbed going through customs, a semi-automatic pistol magazine, no pistol just the magazine, but loaded with hollow points. Just a stupid, stupid, stupid oversight by the American, there wasn’t any malicious intent, just pure unadulterated stupidity. The episode cost him over $100,000, a few days in jail, and a whole lot of misery. The guy is evidently super rich, he flew into Mexico on his own jet, so I don’t know what the outcome or costs would have been for a person of more modest means.worth1 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 2:23 pmYeah I've read the laws and not too keen on giving up my guns.Cole_Robbie wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 1:20 pm You'll need to thin out your gun collection. I think living in Mexico sounds like fun, but I’d want someone solid or several someones solid, local enough or important enough or knowledgeable enough to shield me or at least steer me out of harm’s way.
It’d be like coming here to the US from there as a citizen of Mexico you’d want someone you trust to show you the ropes and where and what to avoid and such.

Re: Moving to Mexico??
If your friend's land is 'near Mexico City' I'd be careful about the trouble you can borrow, moving into a place that other people have plans for. Constantly expanding cities, developers with big profit plans, they really don't see the persons dwelling on undeveloped land as anything more than a bug to be swatted off.
I still think it's a great idea but you should go suss it all out for a year or two before you think about getting rid of your place in Texas. And make sure you know what the long term 'plan' is for the area, before you commit to it as a place to live out your old age.

Land ownership is a really important factor for me, so hard to go anywhere, unless I can become citizen, preferably without having to marry to a local. 2nd amendment is a big deal too.

Re: Moving to Mexico??
like any big decision, weigh the pros and cons of moving vs staying put.
a wise old family friend told us when thinking about moving to a new area, spend a year there before you decide to buy or build a place.
you want to know what its like there the entire year.
we want to own land. might be hard to do that there.
water, everybody needs it. we won't run out of water here until the rapture.
crime, we haven't locked our door in years. you can leave your car running in the parking lot at the local iga during the winter, while shopping.
it will be there when you come out.
guns, hey this is da U.P.
being a soon to be retired person, you will have time to check the place out if you want to.
thats the beauty of being retired. you can spend your time the way you want to.

Re: Moving to Mexico??
There are financial requirements for Mexican residency, anyone can't just decide to move there, any more than foreigners can just decide to move to the U.S. Currently for Temporary Residency a regular income of at least US $4,350 per month, every month, over the last 6 to 12 months and alternate options. See https://www.mexperience.com/financial- ... -mexico/
We love Mexico and used to spend the month of January in a small working beach town for many years, cows and horses wandering the streets. Since the Covid travel rebound, the town has been swarmed with winter vacationers, housing prices have doubled and gentrification is pushing the original inhabitants out of town, now a very different vibe than before. I used to think I could live there year round, but as I got older, realized I could not take the summer heat and humidity. I guess you could find it cooler in the mountains, but the ocean was my main draw.

Reading this makes me wonder what happened to Brokenbar from TV. She was a US citizen whom chose to move to Mexico. Has not been heard from for too long.

Not likely I would move there too many rights to lose and I know too many people that moved to America because of the violence.

Re: Moving to Mexico??
I think my friend told me he lives a couple of hours away from Mexico City or some such thing.
I hate it when I ask how far and they tell me how long and I call them out for it every time.
