Hamming it up.
Decided to get a small ham for Christmas but was inundated with the god awful spiral sliced ham.
I can't stand the things.
They're cut across the grain and when you heat them up all the juice runs out.
Plus the slices are too thin.
Finally found one that is just about right for me that isn't sliced yet.
I don't think it has a bone either.
There's another one I hammy eye on too haven't made my mind up yet.

Re: Hamming it up.
At $5.19/lb, it should be boneless.
Here, the generic bone-in hams are .79/lb for shanks, .99/lb for butts and .99/lb for spirals. I usually get one of each at this time of year. Mostly, I use the ham and bone in split pea soup and white bean soup.
In a couple of days, I'm going to make (for the first time) a yellow bean soup, as I have plenty of Mayocoba beans on hand.

Re: Hamming it up.
We will have a ham for the Christmas dinner here as well. No need to go looking for a grocery store buy. We just butchered a hog and had the hams cured at our local meat locker/market. Having not tried one yet we hope they will be as good as usual from the award winning meat market.

Re: Hamming it up.
I couldn't make my mind up so I got the ham with the bone end and one like in the link made by same people with HEB on it as well.
Both hams made by the same people.
Obviously not cooking both at the same time.
