First Beefsteak!

Thanks to the advice for the unknown climate, I started the seeds early and planted them early. Besides cherries and cocktails, I harvested my first GGWT today. It could have waited a couple of more days, except I couldn't contain myself. Not large. The bottom half for lunch was so-so, and the top half with dinner was fantastic. The off-colors last year might have been caused by the shade cloth too early; I decided for a clear tarp roof for the conduit green house frame. It seems to be working very well, and much brighter than the 50% shade cloth. The roof will be replaced with the shade cloth next month.

I don't have much experience with container gardening. GGTWs are in the ground. Cherokee Purple suffered a lot last year in the pot that totally surprised me, and I skipped Cherokee Purple this year. I wanted to save Cherokee Lime Strips, so I crossed my fingers for my very last seed. I ran out of of space in the raised beds, so it went into a 15-gallon pot. Sure enough, the first fruit got BER. I never had Cherokee Purple BER in the ground in CA (maybe a cup of gypsum at the time of planting), so I figured that the Cherokee series might be prone unless in the ground. NPS in the pot got BER as well..........

Planted GG'sWT for the 1st time this season; matter-a-fact, just put 'em in the ground yesterday.

If that fine specimen is destined for a BLT, please chronicle it (and any others!) @2025-21st Century Silver Jubilee Year Of The BLT! (viewtopic.php?t=5948&start=100)
