Re: 2022 arrivals and departures
That's because I maxed out your package, being all seeds, at 13 ounces. Above that, first class mail cannot be used. Postage prices balloon from there, like a Chinese spy craft. I have you circled for chocolate next year, procrastinator, or not.Docmom wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 8:16 am Re chocolate and procrastinators: I did NOT receive chocolate in my package (though I received so many other treats, it's hard to complain). I assume that is because I followed the suggested guidelines re timing of seed submission, etc. and was not considered a "procrastinator." Well, If procrastinating will potentially get me chocolate in my package, I might consider amending my behavior for future swaps. Basically, I'm suggesting that chocolate bribes will probably NOT change behaviors for the better, at least not as they are currently being used. Clearly, the goal of this engaging activity is for fun, and not to follow strict rules. I have loved following the entertaining repartee and hope it continues. I'm actually dreading summer, when we will all be busy in our own gardens and not glued breathlessly here to the tomato threads. Happy everything to everyone.

Others contributed extra for postage.Toomanymatoes wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 7:23 am I received my package yesterday! Holy cow! I will never have to participate in a swap ever again. Well, unless I manage to find a multi-acre property to grow on.
Thank you for putting all the time and effort into this Gary. It is truly appreciated. Hopefully I can return the favor at some point.
I think I owe you money for the shipping as well.
It was a complete shock that Canadian packages apparently now start at $23.50, where last year they were about 14 dollars. If only requesting small seeds such as tomato, pepper, greens, cucumber, melon, etc... where an envelope can be kept at under 1/4 inch thick, multiple envelopes may be the way to go. One stamp is a bit over a dollar.

Re: 2022 arrivals and departures
Just got your package of beautiful seeds Gary, THANK YOU SO MUCH !
I'm still working on putting together a swap package, trying to include everything ; the last Garden Hoard shipment on it's way to me, vegetable and new flower seeds, sending to you all in one fell swoop before your mailbox heats up. If they are too late to plant consider it early for next swap.
Amara says no more seeds ! she can't wait until it's done.

I don't mail powdered donuts.
White powder...mailed letter...SWAT will be here in 2 minutes. Raspberry filled dark chocolate or plain dark chocolate are your choices, Lindt or Ghirardelli. Or I make it a mystery.

Re: 2022 arrivals and departures
This year has been a struggle, to say the least. But, on the plus side, I've been kept so busy, that it was like this past winter did not even exist (except for those three back breaking March snowstorms).
So, one thing that I will be doing is asking those that are SURE that they are going to be in the next swap, to at least begin to make a partial wish list of varieties or general types (of tomatoes, peppers, beans, greens, fruits, flowers, etc...) well before the launch of the next swap. Likely in early June I will have the latest inventory of what will, at that time, be available. If I start pre-packing some bubble mailers with early, but not yet complete, wish lists, it will mean less packing to do from December, onward.
And shortly, I'll start a 2023 wish list thread.
Can Julianna hit triple digits in edits?
(that is not a challenge)
Also, many of the varieties that participants received, many others have also received. Other than the varieties on the grow out suggestion card, the swap always needs a good mix of new and exiting, basically unheard of, varieties, to go along with the Cherokee Purples and Brandywines.
Several people this year were requesting heirlooms originating from the regions of Appalachia to the Ohio Valley. So, if anyone searches for tomatoes online, please keep that in mind.

CAN Zo T (#1/2)
I'll open it on the next rainy day, which should be here, shortly.
And, I see that I have to change the thread title to 2023/2024.

NY Od B (I found the package the other morning. It was pouring rain outside, and I couldn't see out the window of the door. I opened the door and tripped over it, almost falling on my face. I'll learn.
