Honeycrisp apples are as good as the hype about them. Tasty.

Our local orchard has Pink Lady apples that are so very good. When we lived in Ohio, though, there was an orchard in Pataskala that had Honeycrisps to die for.

Have you guys tried Evercrisp apples? At the store they are called Cosmic Crisp. They are a cross between Honeycrisp and Fuji. Cost $3.99/lb here in South Florida, but they are the best apple I have ever tasted.

No but I used to get all the above two for free all you could eat until the price of oil tanked.Ginger2778 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 6:23 am Have you guys tried Evercrisp apples? Haven't had either of those apples as yet, but they sounds good. Today has been a hot coffee and snuggle in day, LOL! and Piggs agrees!

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I still can't figure out why Red Delicious is still around.
It's funny my parents came to visit and my mother saw the bowl of apples sitting on the counter and asked if she could have one. They were Fuji. She and my father said that it was the very best apple that they ever had. I told them that there were so many more apples out there that were better than her Red Delicious. Dad said, buy these from now on. The next time that I went to her house she had the bowl of apples on the table, of course they were Red Delicious... Lol. I asked her why and she told me because they were so pretty.

I don't knowingly eat either the Yellow or red delicious apples. To me, no taste and I do not like the texture at all. The reds are pretty, but that is all.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
Our local orchard's golden delicious apples are really good. But only available for a couple of months. I think the ones you get from grocery stores are grown specifically for shipping and are stored for months on end. Comparable to the pink cardboard that passes itself off as a tomato.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
Oh, yes, I have only gotten them from stores ever since I left home and the apple orchards and more, LOL, there. I suspect there are strains as well in some varieties and the ones for holding orever and shipping ability often are not the same factors that create good taste, just as in many store tomatoes.

Went to Publix today and they had "heirloom" tomatoes so I bought a couple. One is some kind of pleated red, the other is gold/yellow. Hopefully when they've had a couple more days to ripen they might actually have at least a tiny bit of flavor. I hate this time of year!

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
What's up with all the under age kids drinking and driving?
I mean like 13 and 14 years old.
Manor Texas just had an eventwhere 10 kids were in a car that had a head on with a cop.
All ten were in the car and the driver was a girl that was drunk.
4:40 on a Sunday morning.
Drug paraphernalia was also found in the car.
Some reports say drugs but you know how the news is.
The kids were ages from 13 to 15.
Driver 14.
How do you fit ten kids in a car it is said some were in the thier words the cargo compartment.
Trunk maybe?
Police officer will be out of commission for two weeks.
There is video of the event on line some place.
Haven't seen it.
The reason the police were call is a woman called and said someone was trying to break in her house.
The police showed up and the kids tried to take off and hit the police car head on.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
They still get the varieties that have shelf life. I have found that they get purple, and brown ones which are decent flavored but their red and yellow ones are far worse than Campari, my go to in the off season.EdieJ wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 10:31 pm Went to Publix today and they had "heirloom" tomatoes so I bought a couple. Ginger, red & yellow were all they had, unfortunately.

That is terrible about the officer and the kids. If you ask me, the parents of each of those kids should be charged too. Lack of parenting is what is tearing this country apart. Instead of talking to their children, parents plop them in front of a TV or a computer. Sad.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I see it coming soon there will be laws making people lock the car keys up from the kids.
If they dont they will be held responsible for what ever happens.
Booze too.
I have yet to hear this commentary on any news or talk show.
One guy called in and said his son had Uber bring a 14 year old girl to the house in the middle of the night.
So Uber picked her up at her house and took her to another house in the middle of the night.
Where do they get the money?
I didn't have two quarters to rub together when I was that age.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I remember one time when I was 16 a school friend of mine bought a car.
It was a 2 door 1965 Chevy Impala with a 396.
He was supposed to take me home.
We ended up at some boot leggers hotrod shop in the middle of nowhere because the car broke down.
I didn't get home till the wee hours of the morning.
We didn't have a phone and the neighbors across the road did.
I called them and asked them to tell my parents where I was.
They didn't like me and said they weren't delivering any messages for me and hung up.
I get home covered from head to toe with oil and grease I looked like a raccoon.
My parents were waiting up for me.
I was tackled when I came through the door.
My mom had hold of me and my dad was about to beat the crap out of me with a broom handle.
The lights came on and my mom is now covered in grease and oil my dad too.
Where in hell have you been we have been worried sick about you?
Get out of the house and get those clothes off.
It isn't like I have ever caused any problems before and this is how I get rewarded.
My but beat without a trial.
The neighbors didn't like me because they were rednecks and hated hippies and were raciest to the max.
I had long hair.
They liked my parents and always delivered an occasional message like maybe once every 2 months from other folks.
We didn't have a phone because the phone company said there were already too many people on the party line.
So here is the question.
Why would someone cause grief to someone they liked because they didn't like their kid.
My parents were sick from worry and my neighbors caused it not me.
I had no control over the situation I was in beside getting in that car.
It wasn't the first time someone gave me a ride home.
I wasn't in sports and a car full of cheerleaders used to take me home 10 miles from school sometimes.
I was good friends with some of them mostly about our mutual love for critters.
Why would my parents want to kill me because they were worried about me?
After I got the lynch mob calmed down and had a real trial, all was well.
They weren't mad at me anymore and felt sorry for me for being covered in grease.
They were NOT too happy with the neighbors.'

Your neighbors were donkeys' rear ends. And I know it doesn't seem your parents' reactions were fair but I can tell you fear does awful things to the mind. At least they cared! I wonder if that 14-year-old girl's parents knew or cared that their daughter was at some boy's house in the middle of the night. And I sincerely doubt she was there to talk about schoolwork

The woman that used to cut my hair, her daughter became expecting at age 12 by an older guy in school.EdieJ wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 9:43 am Your neighbors were donkeys' rear ends. In all honesty her mother was no good example at all and the girl at 13 dressed and looked 19 with a baby.
Then there was the bikini car wash at a store in Cedar Creek sponsored by the school, some sort of fund raiser.
My wife said get your eyes full.
I said full of what, the girls are like 12-13 years old, Jr high.
She looked and was flabbergasted.
Who in their right mind would allow such a thing??
It made me sick because I saw several older middle aged men gawking.
The idea of the car wash is fine but really, why that?
The whole system is broken and they are doing it to themselves.
The problem as I see it is the ways of communication we have today that we didn't before.
Calls texting pictures and likes.
Kids don't need smart phones and the schools even though they have rules about them don't enforce them.
In my mind there is nothing here I wouldn't say to my mother my wife at the table or to a kid.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
Here is another odd thing going on in my area.
There was a fire under the over pass at Cameron road and 183 in Austin.
They estimated something like 100 to 150 homeless people live there in an area of about 300 yards long and have been there for years.
Just look up 183 and Cameron road Austin and you can have your choice of links to chose from.
I have driven by this area for years myself and wondered just how vast it was.
On a side note I had a homeless guy run in front of me and others going about 70 miles an hour in Austin the other day.
He just jumped into the road and started running.
He was carrying a trash sack full of stuff and everyone had to slam on their brakes.
This was on 71 and it is a 4 or 5 lane freeway there in this one spot.
Young guy too.
The speed limit is 70 so many were going 80 or more.
