Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
Crape or Crepe myrtles have been called “the lilac of the south” but most cultivars aren’t particularly fragrant like lilacs are. “Biloxi” has light pink flowers that are lilac like in fragrance. I love the fragrance of lilac, but lilac isn’t known to be grown this far south.rxkeith wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 11:15 am i called a nursery.
best guess is crape myrtle. dormant during the winter. they don't start growing until the temp is a steady 80 degrees.
you won't be seeing any of these growing in the keweenaw. very pretty flowers once they bloom.
other possibility the person i spoke to mentioned was mussaenda, another flowering shrub. i am going with crape myrtle.
also been learning about florida palm trees, pines, and other trees, and birds, and snakes, and lizards, and on and on.

We have crepe myrtles on our place. Mostly pink types, but there’s one or two that are a shade of purple and I believe there’s a white one also.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
The helper left my 99 dollar Milwaukee driver sitting on the counter in a room.
I asked where it was and he said he left it back in the other room.
I told him that's the last place you need to leave my stuff they will steal it as fast as you turn your back.
Never in my life have I seen so much stealing going on.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I found my lock and 30 foot cable.
The idiots cut the cable instead of the lock.
The cable cost over 50 dollars and the lock 20.
If they would have cut the lock they would have had a good 30 foot cable.

things i won't miss about being in florida.
driving on interstate 4, accidents happening every day here.
traffic every where all the time
the crazy nut daytona wanna be drivers weaving in and out of traffic.
the sirens, fire, and law enforcement, several times a day, every day.
the noise of the city, could be any big city, but its been a month of florida noise that i won't miss.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
Darn kid destroyed my Klein half inch knockout punch.
Cost to replace 40 dollars.
I found the draw bolt and bearing alone for 24 something without the half inch dies.
He ordered it and is replacing it for me.
Bless his heart he is a good kid.
I'm mean you see what it does and how it works.
So far I've had three people do this in my life and all three were mechanical idiots.
You can surely see how it works.
He had the middle part flipped the other way.

Picked up six (6) avocadoes @.77¢ lb. (less 60¢ coupon) at Metro Market; pretty good for this time of year, am I right, so I'm livin' large.
Stop by Aldi's where they're 69¢ lb. and noticeably larger. At Woodman's...organic...2 for $1.00; oy gevalt!

They sell avocados by the lb there? Here, they are always "each", or 4 to 6 in a bag for a certain amount. And unless they are 69¢ or less, I leave them.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
Panic attack.
I put my keys somewhere that I would find them because my hands were full.
I never put them there but I told myself I would find them before I needed them.
Little guy on my shoulder said no you won't but I didn't listen.
Well I totally forgot where that was and where in the devil are they.
I know I hung them up but where.
Sure nuff they wouldn't be lost for long it was the hanger for my cast iron skillet.
I feel like an idiot.
Never again.
I had to search every nail or screw in the house to find the darned things.
I even looked in places that I know I didn't put them.
They're going to and are at their normal location hanging on the wall next to where I sit.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
keys and wallet are usually in one of two places.
they are either in my pocket if i am leaving the house to go somewhere or
in a desk drawer in the kitchen. thats it. if i deviate from that, lets say i put the keys
on the table, and put my shoes on, and tie them, i will walk out the door to the car, get in,
realize no keys, and have to go back to the house to get them. my sister
on the other hand is always losing keys because she never keeps them in one spot. she will set them
down where ever, and her mind would be on umpteen other things. at one time she had three sets of keys
to everything because she was always losing them. her husband, has a find a phone app
on his phone due to her misplacing her phone.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
One time I was going out, it must have been summer because I was bringing an iced drink with me. Put the keys down to free up a hand while I screwed the cap on the travel mug. I looked FOREVER it seemed, from the kitchen table to the bathroom to every room in the house I had been in getting ready. I finally found them in the freezer. I put them down absentmindedly so I could use that hand to put ice in the cup.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
Yeah I was doomed.
I wanted to go to bed but knew there was no way I was going to sleep worrying about those keys.
I sat down and put my chin in my hand and just gazed at the wall trying to remember.
And that's when I saw them.

That's because they don't live by another's leave and work for their living, unlike urban Roof Rats
Red Squirrels are Da' Bomb, up in Iron County we humbly enjoy watching 'em go about their bidness...with a PURPOSE!

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I recall the time I went through security at the airport in Austin.
The same lady looked at my ID every time.
Then one day she said my ID wasn't good because it looked like a fake name
Seriously call your boss.
Boss comes over and sees my name.
What's the problem?
That's not a real name.
Look I've been coming up to this same person for years and she's never called out my name being fake.
Really.
Yes really.
I don't expect her to remember me but she's had a lot of opportunities to call out my name before and never said anything.
He let me pass through and glared at her.
The name she said that was fake was...........drum roll.
You guessed it.
