Re: How's your weather?
Big storm hit and I'm trapped in my truck at the house until it's over.
Seriously coming a huge downpour and high winds.

850,000 power outages in Houston area. Multiple Giant transmission lines down, saw the video. Structures designed to withstand hurricanes are destroyed.
That’s about 40% of the total customers in Harris county. 4.85 million people in Harris county, 40% have no electricity.

Still 35% of Harris County’s two million customers without electricity as of five this morning.
https://www.click2houston.com/news/loca ... nderstorm/
Four people so far known to have been killed by the thunderstorm. Large scale damage across a large swath of Houston from the northwest and west side through the central business district, downtown, and out to the east. Some of the video footage taken during the storm is wild. There’s a little of the storm footage contained in the link above.
Thankfully, the storm missed us. We got 1/3” of rain and not much in the way of wind or lightning. Feeling for the folks hurting just to my north.
The month of May is a time when these intense storms happen here. The one that nailed Houston yesterday was a whopper.

Never heard of a thunderstorm blowing out the windows on skyscrapers before. So nasty!
@worth1 I hope it didn't get that bad where you are!! Sheltering in a vehicle is not the safest..

Re: How's your weather?
Poor Houston.
No major storms here, just some thunder, a lot of rain and a couple of power blips. Currently overcast and coolish. Another mouse got in my greenhouse and ripped apart my Ionantha (it was dying anyway) but my important and venerable baby plants were covered with cloches so they were safe.
My onions are gonna rot if this doesn't stop.
@worth1 I'm so glad you're ok!

Re: How's your weather?
We had crazy weather here at that same time, it was blowing hard all day and was dried off enough, finally, to mow. I started the mower and 5 minutes later out of nowhere, the wind veered to come from the NE and a heavy mist blew in with a 20 mph constant blow. Huge rainbow going during the mist. I put the mower back in the truck and drove home.
Windy radar confirmed this single little wet spot popping up and coming from the NE and drenching us. Then advance to the "prediction" part of their radar, and they took that system and projected it due west instead. So if you watched the radar it showed an hour moving SW, then a 135 turn to port and it heads due east.
So basically, I'm thinking there was a glitch in the matrix about that time.

Re: How's your weather?
Relatively mild out today. 71° here at 11:15. Houston is about the same. Don’t believe this pleasant interlude will last, though. I think next week looks very warm.
My friend runs a large network of clinics in greater Houston. As of 11 am, six of their roughly twenty clinics remain without electricity.
Their were several, ten or more, huge 345,000 volt transmission towers knocked down, twisted and otherwise completely destroyed by the storm, not to mention the many smaller power poles damaged and destroyed.
Going to be a while before the power comes on for lots of people.
Read somewhere these towers are rated to 120mph winds. I’ll try to see if my son the lineman knows any of the scoop.

I still got soaked going in.
But at least I didn't wash away.
That rain was really cold too.

So far, it's been one day all year that barely reached 80. I hear that Tuesday and Wednesday it might make 90. That would mean pain relief, for me.

Re: How's your weather?
we had some thunder storms come ripping through our area saturday along with with freaky winds.
i had put my tomato and pepper plants out on thursday, to harden off thinking the temps were looking favorable.
i was handing trays with plants to my son in the down pour. they are on the enclosed porch for the time being.
it got to 80 degrees here that saturday. its been sunny, then rain, sunny then rain. appears to be sunny when i am at work
then immediately starts to rain when am off. temp range is 50s to 60s, lows are in the 40s, but wednesday and thursday have
39 degree lows predicted, so it will be a couple more days before i get the plants back outside. there are some breezy days too.
it is painful to nurture and care for the plants, getting them all nice and growing only to have them get knocked to hell by the
elements. my plants are still in decent shape, but those winds, can really do a number on you.

Re: How's your weather?
Today is supposed to be just up to 79° - about 4 ° warmer than average, but less humid than the last couple of days. But then 85 and 89 degrees for the next 2 days, then possibly raining again Thursday. But that's 4 days in a row with no rain, and it's been a while since that happened!
