Crazy observations.
I've been seeing more and more places shutting their doors for good.
Much of it due to the do called pandemic.
But that's not what it's about.
The younger people that were in school during it don't seem to want to get out and have personal relationships with the public.
Many others as well.
One thing I've noticed and so have others is the pandemic caused a lot of people to stay home.
By doing so they've ended up taking other hobbies.
One is the music business and especially guitars.
They had a huge increase in sales mostly on line.
With the extra money floating around they spent it on equipment.
I've also noticed many of these young people have started listening to older music and they have told me the new music is garbage.
These people don't want to go out in public to order food and eat it there.
I've read and heard they can't take the stress of ordering.
Many that picked up music have had the opportunity to buy in person but don't want to look like an idiot because they don't know anything.
Lack of social skills.
I see many of them but certainly not all walking around with slumped shoulders and their face pointing to the floor.
No eye contact at all.
Other ones are quiet friendly and gregarious.
I used to see groups of people walking and chattering away while walking out eating.
Now they just stare at their phone.
Some have actually been trained to be offended at the slightest thing.
They've learned that any personal interaction might get them in trouble.
If they don't get their way or call them out on something they explode and try to point blame back at you.
But that's been a trait that has been around for ages but it's more common now.
I don't play the game and won't put up with it.
More possibly later.

Re: Crazy observations.
Worth, the one sentence you wrote is very evident: The younger people that were in school during it don't seem to want to get out and have personal relationships with the public.
This is not a pandemic failure, but a lack of parental training and the inability of young people to listen to those who are willing to help. Parents seem to have allowed their children to refuse listening and learning. "You can't tell me to do anything." And "if you try and make me, my Mommy will sue you."
We now have two generations of people who feel they don't need to work their way up beginning at the learning stages of life. They want it all right now. Start at the top is the mantra because everything is owed to me. I want what those who have it. I don't care how long it took for them to get it.
Of course there are still those who are doing the right thing. But how ofter do you go into an establishment, make a purchase and just have the bought items shoved at you without any response? It used to be "Here ya go." instead of the old response, "Thank you for your business." Now it is as if they are doing us a favor by taking our hard earned cash without any acknowledgement.
I have begun responding to what is my pet peeve of not being thanked for a purchase by putting the items back on the counter and asking for my money back. Apparently they don't care enough to be grateful for me paying their wages.

Re: Crazy observations.
It's true that places are closing their doors. Not only businesses but personal bankruptcies are up, and it is the fault of the pandemic fallout, absolutely. Some just couldn't make it, and it's still not thriving business as usual for many industries. Certainly restaurants took a hard hit.
I admit I don't shed a lot of tears for the restaurant/take out industry, since I was not a big customer anyway. But also, these businesses have very tiny margins and go bottom up on a regular basis. Then new ones take their place. It's pretty normal for that industry. We lose a lot of restaurants and bars here because the winter off season is such a drain on them.
Do not fear, there will be more restaurants.
As for teenagers, they'll always be the same. It doesn't sound new to me.
Yes there is a blip of pandemic 'hardship' where they missed normal socialization for their age.
Good lord, when I think about what people have survived. Surely they will adjust and carry on.
Spoiled brats are hard to take. Some will keep that attitude their entire lives.
Maybe society needs to do something to help them mature emotionally/personally where parents and peers failed. IDK.

Re: Crazy observations.
Austin Texas told the work at home remote city employees they needed to come back to work I think at least 4 out of 5 days a week.
The employees said they weren't going to and actually got their way.
They haven't came back yet and it's been a very long time.
I've actually refused to go to meetings on a Friday morning and did it remotely.
It was ridiculous to drive that many miles to go to a worthless meeting only to hear lip service from management.
I did it one time.
The meeting started at 6:30 and lasted for about an hour.
It took me till almost lunch time to get to work the drive was so long.
From then on if I had to get something I would go to the meeting on Friday get my stuff and go home and still get over time.

Re: Crazy observations.
Another thing that got my goat growing up was the Wonderful World of Disney or whatever they chose to call it at the time.
It came on Sunday night for around 21 years.
I can't count how many of these shows I missed because it was slotted at the same time as our Sunday night Church service.
We went to church on Sunday morning Sunday night and Wednesday night.
If there was a singing going on after church service we had to go to that as well no matter where it was being held at.
But something that always baffled me, 'Is why would they have something as wholesome and family oriented on a Sunday night when a huge portion of the viewing audience was in church?

Re: Crazy observations.
My best friend from way back in high school goes to management meetings pretty much every working day and often multiple meetings a day, long days with lots of meetings, all the time. We had lunch Friday, on his expense account, technically okay since I did have some relevant business connection, but, my friend can no longer talk without using “meeting speak”.
What is “meeting speak”? Examples of meeting speak are constantly adding phrases such as “to be honest” “frankly” “truthfully”. So what were you doing if you didn’t add in those phrases, lying to me?
I feel for him having to attend all those meetings. Meetings have been the worst thing I have experienced in any area of my normal life, outside of personal tragedies or losses. I have a hard time staying awake in church and that’s been true since I was young. Having people talk at me for any length of time is almost always excruciating or boring to the point of death or stupor.
The best meetings I’ve had have always been five minutes or less. Why are we here, then who needs to do what and when, and how should we further communicate and when. That’s most if not all of it and it doesn’t need to have people droning on forever.

Re: Crazy observations.
I have a serious allergy to meetings myself, or any sit-down event where you listen to a speaker and cannot move. This has gotten worse as time goes on. But it was a struggle to get through college, so much sitting in class...
Yes the pandemic did open up opportunities to do things differently, but it's being called a 'missed opportunity' by some due to reverting to our old ways, especially the many many hours people spend commuting just to sit at a desk and do things they could've done anywhere just as well - including home office.

When I was running meetings for establishing the first ever website for my employer I always had an agenda with times and a designated timekeeper. They had full authority to shut anyone down at the designated time when we moved to the next topic. I got positive feedback for those meetings.karstopography wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2024 1:05 pm The best meetings I’ve had have always been five minutes or less.
