Oat Milk !?
What in the world is this stuff...do people really drink this?
at Redner's
IT"S GOTTA GO.... reduced to $1.
Original Oat Milk
Dated good through tomorrow
The stock girl thinks it should be fine yet for a week. I bite for two.
So it tastes like oatmeal. It is grey and translucent. Sort of sweet.
Looks like it is made from water that has had oats soaked in it. Some stabilizers? a gum. sea salt.
Regular price over $5.
Well, it is not milk. It is oat water. It is about the consistency of 1% milk. I thought it was 3/4 gallon, it is only 84 oz. Odd shaped bottle.
I walk by all these fake milks, the catchy $1 sign got me. I can't imagine parting with $5 for it.
If I stop posting, it was NOT good for a week.
I was going to make some "oatmeal cookie" ice milk with it, but I don't know what will happen. If it will even take in air or not?

Usually has some sort of oil in it too, sunflower or something. I’m a fan of a couple of the fake milks but oat is gross.

We have a good Soy milk here Down Under which I have, but not by choice. Being dairy free, gluten free and nut free does not leave a lot of options. Rice mill, the couple of times I have tried it seems not much better than the oat you described above, although Mum has it as she cannot tolerate Soy.
Oat is borderline if on a gluten free diet, does not contain gluten but contains gliaden (spelling?) a protein that works the same way as gluten and ma or may not trigger a reaction in celiacs

Re: Oat Milk !?
The reason these plant milk is white and milky isn't due to the main ingredient, it's the added ingredients that acts as coloring, emulsifier, binder, etc. Tricalcium phosphate give it that chalky white color. The medical literature says calcium phosphate is fairly absorbable form of calcium and moderate consumption isn't concerning for raising phosphorus. Still various authority advise avoiding it for those with kidney problems. A cheaper alternative they may use is calcium carbonate, which require stomach acid to absorb. The plant milks generally have various gums like guar and xanthum gum which can have various unwanted digestive effects.

I think I saw calcium carbonate in the listing.
I need to get a bowl frozen to try the ice milk.

I'll order it when I get an iced latte because otherwise it's...... not good. I've never had just a big glass of oat milk

Supposedly gliadin is only a problem if you've eaten gluten within a certain timeframe. If you haven't, it's supposed to be fine for people with Celiac disease. Of course, this information comes from what the Internet said about it in 2009 (so, maybe they've learned more since then).Whwoz wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 3:58 am We have a good Soy milk here Down Under which I have, but not by choice. Re: Oat Milk !?
Almond milk, brown sugar, and carob powder make a tasty drink (it tastes a lot like chocolate milk). If you use cow milk instead of almond milk, the drink is bitter (from the carob), and doesn't taste like chocolate milk. I think nuts remove the bitterness, somehow. Peanut butter removes the bitterness, too (but it overpowers the carob flavor).
I'm not a huge proponent of almond milk (I'm more of a reconstituted powdered cow milk kind of person), but I like using almond milk with carob.
Oat milk sounds good to me (albeit, not by your description), but I've never seen nor tried it.

Re: Oat Milk !?
Oatmeal cookie ice milk...
Overall I thought the oat milk was good enough to drink, but not for the full price.
