Best "new" (to you) tomato of 2024

This season there were seven "new to me" tomatoes in the garden. Two were a pleasant surprise: Amazaletti's Giant Red Heart and Kukla Portuguese.

Amazaletti's produced larger tomatoes than the rest of the varieties and the flavor was excellent. Overall production was not as much as expected but then all production was less than expected.

Kukla Portuguese flavor was top notch with nice looking fruit. Harvest numbers were in the OK range.

One other "new" variety was Maggie Mater. I know seeds were sent to me by a regular poster (right now without research I don't recall the name...but thanks again). Maggie was a very nice dark tomato with tons of tomatoes with excellent flavor just like most other "blacks". My only concern was the size of the fruit. The 25 (so far with several still growing) have averaged about 6 ounces. I need feedback on whether this is the size they are expected to be or if my year of small tomatoes affected this new variety.

@Kina2 Is Jarson 16 stable yet? I know that many of the Jarson's are still a work in progress.

It seems it’s that the 16 is stable in 5 colours- Purple, GWR, Striped, Yellow and Bi-coloured. Some
Of them are in F8-F9 state but I got these that are now F7.

The Jarson’s really are a hot mess as they were out in the market so early. Im growing out some F2 and F3’s aswell.

Is there a numbered designation for the various colors? I think that I've seen something like Jarson 18/2.

These Jarson tomatoes are likely going to need their own separate thread, or a link to specifics for variations of any of them by their number.

For the MMMM, unless specified, the requester will be getting just the numbered ones they want, unless the requester (and the sender) specify a description of the tomato.

Yes numbers and some have nr and name. Like Jarson 13 Ochre Pear.
There are 35 Jarson Crosses Nr 6, 32 and 33 not available anywhere. Or even pictures to be seen.

Well.
I don't think I grew any new tomatoes other than the giant tomato, and the taste on that was mediocre at best so that did not impress.

What did impress me was the 4th or 5th attempt at Costoluto Genovese. With a dry year, tall cages, three plants per cage with a stem every 6" around the cage, they did fantastic. Heck they are still producing well and very healthy. I think a lot of it was the lack of rain, but also the sparrows didn't get at them too much. Very few bird pecks. I planted a small red round nearby. It is a sparser leaf growth and was purposely planted closer to the trees. The birds pecked them instead of ruining the CG. A trap crop for sparrows allowed CG to really impress me.

I haven't found a new to me tomato in many years that has made it to my 'Must Grow' list. Well I have this year. I was blown away with the first bite and smiled happily until the end. It knocked both of my socks off as well as my shoes. I have pinks and blacks on my Must Grow list and this is the first time EVER that a red has taken a seat. It is Lloyd E. Frey. It is absolutely amazing to my taste buds. The sad thing about this is that so far I have only had one tomato, as a deer got to the plant. I have two more large fruits that are close to ripening. I hope that those fruits make it so that I can re-affirm what I tasted and save seeds from them. If you have this in your seed stash, grow it. If not, I hope to send a few into the Mostly Mystery Mater Mailing. I will most definately be growing this again next year to multiply seeds.

I am so bummed! I grew Lloyd E. Frey but unfortunately it was a cuckoo! Seeds I received were from Happy Cat Farms, and I know someone else who got from them who also got a cuckoo.

I'm getting more next year from Secret Seed Cartel. Even though it was a cuckoo....they were delish!

1. Suffer Well by Bill Yoder....possibly the best tomato I've eaten in my entire life.
2. Nano's Meatball Dwarf....a new variety offered by Secret Seed Cartel
3. Bacon Lettuce and This....@Tormato has made this 'red hater' into a lover! At least of THIS one!
4. Jarson 10 Tricolor....simply sublime.

My seed came from SSC. I picked those 2 fruit today. They are still a bit green but it's going to freeze tonight. Once they color up some more, I will process them and send some seeds into the MMMM. I'm going to have to compare this one next to Bacon, Lettuce and This next year.

"Honey" (from Latvia). Tasty (sweetish);productive; and best of all, no cracking or other marks. Dark reddish pink. About 8-10 oz.

"Tommy Toe" mentioned by tormato sounds wonderful. Just another one to try & find space for...
