2 things I would love to see on this site
I would love it if posts were numbered so when we referred back to mine it could easily be looked up.
As a person who sometimes does seed offers, I would like our ability to edit a post to always be enabled. A lot of times I would run out of seeds and not be able to put that information the original post. Or a correction, or news update would need to be made but not able. Plus, I make typos. lol!
Mods, and others here, what say you?

Ginger, posts are numbered. Right under the thread title is the post # then the poster's name.
I agree with you about the need to edit an old post, especially for trades.

I can set the editing to any time frame but remember, the OP can edit a post and make the replies look like they posted in the wrong topic.
It doesn't matter to me. I even gave permissions to all users to delete their own thread, hopefully if they see it causes friction they'll take action.

I definitely agree that editing posts should always be enabled in the seed swap and seeds wanted forums. I propose that this be the case.
Workaround: Post the offer somewhere else where we you can edit it indefinitely and link to it here. You can make a free blog or something and post your offers there, and then link to them. Then you can edit your blog post indefinitely.
Indefinite editing is also very nice for on-site tradelists, growlists and such, I edit those a lot. The workaround works well there, too, though.
Although I like indefinite edits everywhere, on-site, I understand they can be abused, as Rajun Gardener said.
Example of how it could be abused:
User1 says something. User2 replies. User1 edits the post to make it look like User2 wasn't very smart. However, I imagine that's more of an issue with newer posts that you can still edit anyway.
We could make previous edits public record. So, that way people could see if others were abusing the feature. I don't know what's wrong with indefinite edits in this scenario, other than the fact that a lot of people don't look at edit histories, but should something go wrong, people can easily point it out, and have proof.

The ability to indefinitely be able to delete your posts does make you feel like you have more control over your content, which I think can improve morale. I would keep the ability to delete posts indefinitely, personally. What's the rationale behind disabling the feature? Have people abused it somehow? Or did people just not like useful content disappearing?

Yeah, the posts are numbered. However, it looks like every post has a unique number, even across threads. So, the OP won't be post #1 (except for the very first post on this site). They're still in order, though.

Yes. I was going to refer someone to a previous post in a thread and didn't because the number would be too hard to find. Easier to say 4th post on page 2 than try to find a non-sequential number in the thread( at least not a sequence my brain can see easily).

Don't forget the posts are in order. So, posts that follow yours will always have a higher number (even if it's more than just one number higher).

you can also click the number and a page opens with that post at the top, copy that address and post it and don't forget the little wrench icon, you can bookmark it. email it, subscribe/unsubscribe and print it.

If a thread gets jumbled up because of massive editing of posts, we can always delete it.

No, I mean numbering for each thread separately, not total # of posts., like there's no way any thread has 1397 posts, right?

I agree that it would be less confusing to people to make them ordered uniquely per post.
In the meantime, or if that doesn't get implemented, can you hold your finger on the link to bring up a menu to copy it? That's how I can do it on my tablet.

I also use my tablet most of the time, once and a while I use my phone So there is no right clicking. It's the same thing with showing who the O P is.

Re: 2 things I would love to see on this site
The more I read this and think about it the idea of each post having its own unique number is not a bad idea. If you are referred to a particular number can you put it in search to find the thread it is in?
I initially supported numbering posts in each thread uniquely if it is possible since as fast as posts are accumulating in just these few days I would think the individual post numbers could get pretty high. Within several months posts would be in the thousands or tens of thousands or more. Even though they are in order in each thread with gaps in between it can be mind boggling to contemplate searching for post 20,367 or higher, for example, in a given thread! Much easier to find a smaller number like 67 or such in a thread.
But if it is easy to access an individual post once you have the number . I like the idea that you can just click on the post number to bring up the page and post with each post having its own number. As you point out the posts will still be numbered in order, but will eventually be very just high numbers with gaps.
