Troubled Rosella Purple

First time tomato grower here...About 60 days ago, I planted 2 seeds each of Dwarf Emerald Giant, Rosella Purple, and Adelaide Festival from Victory Seeds. They all germinated within 24 hours of each other 56 days ago. I have one of each growing in a grow tent and one of each growing in front of a large south-facing window.

Each set of three plants is treated pretty much the same with respect to light, watering, container, up-potting, fertilizing, etc. The positions are rotated to keep things even. There is leaf tip/margin browning on the lower leaves of all six plants, but RP had it worst. Both RP are severely lagging behind those of the two other varieties. Has anyone had this issue with RP? Both DEG and AF have already set fruit in the tent while the RP is stunted with aborted flowers.

Oh dear! It doesn't look like a very happy camper does it? What is the medium you are growing in? Could it possibly have been contaminated?

What planting mix did you use? What area of the world are you growing in? Are the plants indoors or out and do they have any exposure to the outdoors? What are you feeding them? How often do you water? The answers to these questions will help us figure out what is going on.

Linda I think you are on track, my first thought is the soil too but it also could be something else going on.

I think they have a classic case of fertilizer burn. I would immediately get them out, rinse all the soil off the roots, and repot in fresh potting mix with nothing added. They will continue to decline for a bit, then new growth will take over. You can add a weak fert solution every week to the soil once they come back to health.

They are all potted in Miracle Gro Organic Moisture Control Potting Mix amended with perlite for drainage. The pots are 5 gallon air pruning Air-Pots. I am in Las Vegas, NV, but the ones pictured were grown completely indoors in a grow tent. The temperature is maintained at 75 F and the humidity is usually between 40-50%.Fertilizer burn is definitely a possibility. I forgot the potting mix contained compost and fertilized twice since planting. Perhaps RP is more sensitive to excess salts? I've been watering whenever the top inch of soil is dry.

It's not a vigorous grower (IME). So, you're probably right.

Thanks for the information. Given that, it is the soil with too much fertilizer. Do exactly as Marsha suggested and replant those plants after rinsing the roots. They should recover just fine.

May be nothing wrong. After all, they are dwarfs. Grew Rosella Purple last year and they weren't very large plants. They barely made it to 3 feet. .
