Hi from North Mississippi

Hi y'all. I'm a man in my sixties, but a relatively inexperienced gardener. Thought I was a tomato expert after perfect weather in 2023 and then struck out completely last year after planting late and then very early June temps above 95. Looking forward to this year and learning from people here. Planted last week: Two Sun Gold, two Brandymaster, two Big Beef plus, one Red Snapper (determinate), and one Green Giant. All of these are new to me. Usually plant heirlooms, but I'm going with mostly hybrids after such a bad go last year. These I started from seed in early March. I may go by the local nursery and see if I can find two more heirlooms to add, but I'm not sure yet. Seedlings made it through a lot of wind last week and look strong and vigorous with a bit of growth already showing.

Welcome from further north.
I too have found out in recent years that timing can be critical. My bad year was 2023, but I did better in 2024 by starting a month later, and avoiding the plant stress of ripening the first fruit just when the weather got too hot. Our summers have changed a lot in the past 5 years and it's hard to predict what it will be like.
I bet there are people here from your area who have the timing figured out.
