We Missed National Fresh Tomato Day 2025
It was April 6th (https://www.holidaycalendar.io/holiday/ ... %2C%202025)
We missed it by six (6) weeks; how could TJers let THAT slide?

Re: We Missed National Fresh Tomato Day 2025
What a weird date to have “National Fresh Tomato Day”. Where outside of greenhouses in the US on April 6th are people harvesting fresh tomatoes? Southern Florida, Hawaii? What about the 48 other states? I’d think they would pick sometime in July, early enough in the summer that southern folks are still potentially harvesting tomatoes and far enough along in the season that the northern people are getting some of their early tomatoes.

April 6th is ridiculous unless it's store bought tomatoes.

I didn’t miss it. I ate 97 tomatoes that day and had a hangover for 3 days

Sigh! The Gotch had just ONE job to do...and he whiffs.
Agree with @karstopography and @worth1; the only people who could really celebrate National Fresh Tomato Day in early April would be @Whwoz and his Southern Hemisphere Tomato Ranching neighbors.

I was thinking the same things, when I saw that, and figured someone selling them made up that date.karstopography wrote: ↑Sun May 18, 2025 12:39 pm What a weird date to have “National Fresh Tomato Day”. And not even Woz could do so reliably @Cornelius_Gotchberg , some years our season finishes up weeks before that date.Cornelius_Gotchberg wrote: ↑Sun May 18, 2025 5:44 pmSigh! The Gotch had just ONE job to do...and he whiffs.

Who gets to decide these types of days? That's just as bad as having Naked Gardening Day on May 3rd.

That's a bit too early, I aim to get the first ripe fruit before 4th of July.

Meh.... no freshies here so no big deal. Must have been a non-gardener who set the date.

Coupla weeks after that, here. 2024's 1st Fresh Tomato BLT fell on July 22nd...a Monday...AND a more appropriately timed National BLT Day!. It was recognized during Monday Morning BLT Brunch viewtopic.php?p=129260#p129260maxjohnson wrote: ↑Sun May 18, 2025 11:32 pm That's a bit too early, I aim to get the first ripe fruit before 4th of July.

I knew about the day but not many of us could celebrate the event with a nice fresh tomato. I wonder who created this day?

Time someone inaugurated “Official Fresh Tomato Day” (or anything better) and I think they are probably in this room. Brain up a hashtag and a date and we will hit all our socials* before, during, and after.
